I am a police officer in (very hot) Texas. Yesterday, I came across a woman walking on the highway pushing a young child in a stroller in the right lane of the frontage road. After talking to the woman for some time, I learned: (1) she was unemployed because she had no car and could not afford childcare, (2) she was only receiving intermittent child support from an out-of-state, uninvolved father of her child, (3) she was walking miles from taking her daughter to a dentist appointment to go grocery shopping, (4) and after going grocery shopping, she was going to have to make the walk home with the extra weight of the groceries added to her already full hands. (There were no sidewalks in the area, and her stroller had small plastic wheels - hardly appropriately for pushing through grass if she were to stay out of the roadway). I loaded mom, toddler, and stroller in my car and drove them to the grocery store down the road. We talked some more once at the store. I told her I would get her an all-terrain stroller more appropriate for her long walks with limited sidewalks. I also learned that she had a bachelor's degree in computer science in an extremely tech-oriented city! My intention with this fundraiser is to generate funds to help her secure a reliable mode of transportation and get her daughter enrolled in childcare so that she can find a full-time job and support herself. She needs a car to get to a job... but she needs daycare to go to work... but she needs a job to pay for daycare... see the predicament? She needs a hand. Thank you for caring.
GOFUNDME: NOTE. These funds are being raised for Lisa Medinnus.
