Hearts for Haley

Hi everyone! My name is Catherine Dean. My son, Connor Dean, has been dating Haley Valentine for 3.5 years. She attended St Charles Community College last spring and transferred this fall to Stephens College in Columbia, Mo, majoring in fashion design. She wants to open her own shop one day and debut her very own clothing line! Haley has worked at Red Robin in Chesterfield for 2 years and still comes home most weekends to pick up shifts. This Christmas, she wanted to do something extra special and surprise Connor with tickets to Decadence New Years Eve Celebration in Denver, Co. This was a 2 day music fest with some of their favorite artists. While there, they wanted to take a day to go skiing. Haley was new to the sport, so on Saturday January 2, they spent a large portion of their time on the bunny hill. Haley is a natural athlete and picked it up very quickly. They went down the beginners trail and they both were doing very well. At 3:45, they decided to take the last lift of the day one more time. They were staying together until Connor's ski came off and he stopped to fix it. Haley had been doing great and Connor told her to go ahead on down and he would meet her at the bottom. He was on his way down when he passed 2 skiers that had stopped to help someone that had been in an accident in the trees off of the trail. He was suddenly hit with a bad feeling and pulled over to call Haley. She didn't answer and he couldn't see her at the bottom, waving her poles, like he had in the past. He knew the person in the trees was Haley. He popped off his skis and ran sideways back up the hill to her. She was unconscious, blood coming from her right ear and throwing up on herself. She was air lifted by Flight For Life and transferred to St Anthony's Trauma Center. She was lucky to have survived the accident. Her parents, Bob and Amy, immediately flew out to be by her side. She was diagnosed with a traumatic subarachnoid hemorrhage, skull fracture, carotid foramen fracture and a ruptured right ear drum. She spent the next 24 hours in the ICU and then transferred to the neuro floor. On Thursday, Jan. 6, she was admitted to the inpatient rehab unit and is receiving PT, OT and speech therapy. She is being cared for by the best medical care team possible!! All of the prayers and support from family and friends is greatly appreciated! I am starting this fund for Haley to help pay for her medical bills resulting from this accident. She will need outpatient therapy once she gets back to Missouri, this is going to be an ongoing process. No one has asked me to do this for Haley. I wanted to do this for her and her family because I know that the bills will start mounting and the last thing they need, through all of this, is to worry about how to come up with the money to pay them. Please donate what you are comfortable sharing and continue praying for her! Her survival was a miracle in itself, I know that there was someone looking out for her. She continues to improve everyday. Thank you all for your support, love and prayers!! If there is any money left over in the fund, once medical bills are paid, the remainder will go towards her college expenses.
