The fight against breast cancer became personal for us in 2010, when Kirk was diagnosed with Stage 3, Invasive Ductal Carcinoma.  Up until this point, our friendship was defined by care free, good times together serving on the elementary school PTA, cheering from the soccer field sidelines and sharing a bottle of wine – or two! - at book club.

Kirk’s battle was a life-changing event for all of us.  Her unwavering strength and positive attitude inspired us to form a team in the 3 Day Walk, “Team Captain Kirk & the Friendship Enterprise.”  We walked in two 3 Day events, (2010 & 2011) the first year walking FOR Kirk, the second, walking WITH her and placing amongst the top fundraising teams- raising approximately $150,000 over the two years.

A lot has changed since 2010- Kirk beat cancer and she moved with her family 3000 miles away to Washington state.  One thing that hasn't changed is the strength of our  friendships, so when Kirk reached the important 5 year cancer free milestone this year, we decided to commemorate it together the best way we knew how.

To celebrate this event, several members from the Friendship Enterprise, including Captain Kirk, are joining forces once again, along with a new generation of breast cancer warriors- our teenage daughters- to walk in the Avon 39 on 4/30 & 5/1.

Please join in our celebration of life, family and friendships, by making a tax-deductible donation to Avon and our team.  Each of us (including the teens) must raise $1800.  To ensure we all reach our requirement, we are fundraising as a team through this site and will allocate the pooled donations to each member’s Avon account upon completion.

Thanks in advance for your support - together we can make this awful disease a thing of the past and ensure that, in the words of the original Captain Kirk, all may "Live long and prosper!"

We are very grateful for donations made in memory of Phyllis Baumgardner and will proudly honor her as a courageous survivor at the Avon39 on April 30 & May 1st in Washington DC.   Thank you!
