Grooming Alliance of Spearfish
Donation protected
Do you fat bike or snowshoe on the current groomed trails surrounding the Spearfish area?
If so, we need your help.
****UPDATE****
Thanks to all of you, we purchased GROOMING EQUIPMENT! Because of this amazing community, GAS was able to purchase the snow machines we need to keep your trails riding great. Sincerely, thank you from all of us.
But, we're not out of the woods yet! We operate on 100% donations.
We still need to cover our operating expenses for this season and seasons to come. Here's a break down of how we spend your donation:
Machine maintenance - we do as much maintenance as we can, but for anything we can't fix ourselves, we hire locally.
Gas and oil - it takes over 400 gallons of gas to maintain our trails!
Snowmobile and grooming attachment repair - normal wear and tear on equipment adds up.
Signage - we want everyone to know where they are going!
Fundraising - sometimes, it takes money to make money. We spend a small portion of donations on local fundraising events.
Thank you for your support. We couldn't do it without this amazing community!

A sincere thank you to Jesse Hansen, Spearfish local and grooming pioneer, who singlehandedly built the trail system you know today.
He dedicated a decade of effort and tens of thousands of dollars to groom the Big Hill area. GAS is acutely aware that without Jesse, fatbiking would not be a “thing” in the Northern Black Hills. He has set a very high bar for quality of trail, and we are eager to meet it. We all owe him a great deal of gratitude.
The Black Hills National Forest Service has been a monumental help to GAS. They generously donated two snow machines, which we use to knock down deep snow before packing it down with the Snowdog. Without their machines, we'd barely be able to groom even 10 miles of trail. A special shout out to Paul Bosworth and Bonnie Jones! Thank you for your tireless involvement and dedication to our forest.
When we formed our group, we asked ourselves, “What do we need to be able to groom?” The simple answer? GAS!
Grooming Alliance of Spearfish is a nonprofit organization (501c3 status pending) that is dedicated to grooming singletrack in the national forest surrounding the Spearfish area.
We are not affiliated with Black Hills Trails, the Nordic Ski Club, or any bike shop.
If so, we need your help.
