Babble Buddy - A tool to advance language learning
Donation protected
For language-disabled children, life is a battle from speaking to reading to writing. Be a part of making early language learning attainable for our kids. Details available here.
Over ten percent (10%) of children worldwide have a communication disorder related to speech/language difficulty. If your children or grandchildren aren’t affected in that way, then you’re sure to know someone whose children or grandchildren are. Maybe they’re just a few months behind in babbling or cooing, or it could be more profound.
Over the last 6 years, I have designed a device that will assist language-delayed children in developing their early language based on auditory cues and oral feedback. I call it Babble Buddy and it will listen to an infant’s sounds and play them back or, if no sounds come from the infant, it will play from a library of age-appropriate cooing and babbling to give the infant some input. This has been shown to enhance the child’s ability to make his/her own sounds. The device is patented, and its concept has been market-tested by a university market research group. The response from parents and Speech-Language Pathologists was very positive.
To get the design to its final phase, over 2,000 hours of very complex engineering must be done involving microcode, circuit board design and fabrication, and software which will add up to $50,000 to the $50,000 already spent. When the final product is complete, we will license the product to a manufacturer for sale to professionals in child development and the general public.
As a Speech/Language Pathologist and a grandmother, I am asking anyone with a desire to help language-delayed children to donate to Babble Buddy and make it a reality. These children deserve every break we can give them.
The development of this device is not in time to provide an advantage for my autistic, language-disabled grandson, as he is now age 8 years old, but it’s not too late for many other children. After extensive reviews of studies and papers, I think Babble Buddy will be an important and effective early intervention tool for at-risk infants and toddlers in learning language. Let’s not have another generation of children grow up without the benefit of this device. My hope is Babble Buddy will be produced and used to develop evidence-based practice and research for its effectiveness for varied disabilities involving speech/language learning.
Be a part of making early language learning attainable for these kids. You just might change someone’s life.
