Baby Rory's Fight Against Cancer

Donation protected
Rory is a happy, easy going and energetic baby, who seemed to be in good health. That is until just a few weeks ago when his parents, Daylene and Mack, noticed his eye seemed a bit swollen. Daylene took him to the eye specialist for some tests and he knew right away that it wasn't his eye causing the problem. Daylene and Rory were sent to the hospital for immediate testing where a CT scan revealed that Rory had tumors in his head and they suspected more throughout his body. After additional testing, Daylene and Mack were presented with their worst nightmare; at just 12 months old, Rory has cancer.

Rory and his parents were sent to the Children’s Hospital in Vancouver the next morning. The doctors found what they suspect to be the primary tumor in his lower abdomen. After further testing and a biopsy of the tumor and bone marrow, Rory has been diagnosed with Stage 4, High Risk Neuroblastoma; a rare childhood cancer with about 50–70 new cases diagnosed in Canada every year.

Rory started chomotherapy on August 18 at Children’s Hospital in Vancouver. His treatment will last approximately 8 to 9 months and depending on his response to chemotherapy, Rory may undergo surgery to remove the tumors.
It has been a short time, but this has already been a rocky road for Daylene, Mack and baby Rory. In addition to the emotional stress that lies ahead, Daylene and Mack will be facing significant financial stress throughout Rory’s time in treatment which will include travel, lodging, general living, and any unforeseen expenses that Rory needs which are not covered by BC medical.

Daylene will be packing up her life in Kelowna and moving to Vancouver for as long as Rory is in treatment. She is in the process of completing her degree so she could provide the best life for her family. Mack will be taking a leave from work throughout part of Rory's treatment. Daylene and Mack are a separated family but they are both 100% committed to helping Rory regain his health, and will both be by his side throughout this time. Rory has a brother, 4 year old Jackson, back home in the Okanagan who is also extremely worried about his baby brother and misses him very much.

This fundraiser is being organized by friends and family. With your support we can help baby Rory through his fight against cancer. We are asking for donations, prayers and positive thoughts to help support Rory and his family during this difficult time.
