Luvable Baci, the Cleft Lip Puppy

Baci's Story
Baci was born in Eugene, Oregon with a cleft lip and was struggling to nurse on her own. She was taken to a local emergency veterinary hospital but the owner could not afford the around-the-clock care the puppy would require to survive. Luvable Dog Rescue was contacted and asked to take over responsibility for the puppy. Luvable decided Baci’s best chance was with the loving staff of the Willamette Animal Hospital in Corvallis where she spent the next week. She received around-the-clock bottle feedings and monitoring. Other than her cleft lip, she was a health, vigorous puppy with a strong will to survive. We all decided we would do anything necessary to save her life.
Staff member, Lexie Skurdal, her mom, Collette and their family began fostering her, continuing the around-the-clock feedings and care. Under their amazing care, Baci has grown and is thriving. A surgical specialist Dr. Daly at OBRA, examined Baci and determined that she could live a normal life without the need for surgery to repair her cleft lip, but unfortunately, Baci suffered a minor eye injury, which led to the discovery of a congenitally deformed eye. Her eye was not functioning normally and would cause her pain in the future. Her eye needed to be removed.
The surgery was done yesterday, by Dr. Kimble at Edgewood Animal Hospital. We are hoping to raise $500 to help cover the costs of her medical expenses.
Baci has an amazing spirit, enthusiasm for learning and life, a fearless temperament, great love for people and other dogs and has not allowed either her cleft lip or unusual eye to ever dampen her spirit. She loves playing and training with her dog brothers and sisters and exploring the world.
We have already received many wonderful applications from people interested in adopting Baci and will keep you posted of her progress as she moves forward with her next life adventure. For more on her story please visit us on Instagram at luvabledogrescue.
