The Bahnsen Project

Greg L. Bahnsen was one of the most scholarly philosophers and Christian apologists in the 20th century. He was a humble student of Scripture and bold defender of orthodox Christianity and Christian ethics in all areas of life.

The Bahnsen Project has two aspects:

(1) A Full-Length Biography and Documentary

The working title of the biography:
"Let God Be True: The Life and Ministry of Greg L. Bahnsen"

This would give the church an account of the great works for which God used Dr. Bahnsen, examining the many facets of his life, both personal and professional.

Along with a full-length biography, it's my hope to produce a documentary on the impact Dr. Bahnsen's teaching has had on the American church.

Depending on the amount of funds received, I'm hoping to enlist a professional film company (much better quality than this promo video) in the production of this work.

In addition, there is another aspect of The Bahnsen Project for which I'm currently in negotiations with Covenant Media Foundation.

(2) Giving the church more written works of Dr. Bahnsen.

As of his untimely death in December of 1995, Dr. Bahnsen did not leave behind nearly as many written books as he could have finished had the Lord not taken him home so young.

Thankfully, he did leave a vast amount of audio lectures.

However, due to the fact that most scholarly work, or even lay-level edificaiton, is done through the medium of written material, I am proposing to transpose many of his teaching series in audio format to print format. 

I am currently in negotiations with Covenant Media Foundation about this aspect of the project.

When approved, this will not be a direct dictation method. Books and writing require a distinct method of communication from that of audible lectures and sermons. However, the greatest care will be given in this process to ensure, as much as possible, that it is Greg Bahnsen's voice coming through even in the printed works.

As of now, what I think the church would benefit most from concerning his audio lectures/sermons being transmitted to text format, is the following:

• Theological Works:
Covenant Theology, Systematic Theology, Commentary on Calvin’s Institutes

• Exegetical Works:
Commentaries on Proverbs, Galatians, Hebrews, and Revelation

• Practical Theology (shorter works):
Particular Redemption, Christian Education, Economics, Warfare

My hope is that with these (and hopefuly even more) works of Bahnsen accessible in print format (along with a full biography of his life and ministry), the church would be greatly blessed by having even more access to one of the most gifted and able teachers in the world of Christian scholarship, philosophy, theology, and ethics.

It must be clear though that embarking on this goal will cost money.

The bulk of the cost will come from the biography and documentary aspect of this project. The task is to track down the various interviewees with whom Greg Bahnsen had much interaction and be able to meaningfully discuss with them his interactions, his life, and his ministry from their various perspectives, to record those conversations, and then to carefully craft them into a truthful but engaging work.

This will take a  lot of time and energy but also a lot of cost in travel - especially if involving a film crew for the documentary (not to mention the cost of the film crew for their actual work of filming and post-production).

If Greg Bahnsen has had any impact on your life, or if this project sounds at all like something you could see the church benefiting from, I ask you to please consider funding this project with whatever amount you're comfortable giving.

My goal is to have it completed (all the above mentioned works, Lord permitting) by September 2023 - what would have been Dr. Bahnsen's 75th birthday.

I realize that date seems a while a way. But given the scope of this project that's not a very long time at all. So if you do think you would help fund this project, I would ask that you fund it soon.

NOTE: The $5,000 budget is a starting ballpark amount. It will be increased to the actual cost of the project once everything is settled with film production and travel costs.
