The Emily Rose Pavilion - Banstead Village FC
Donation protected
In 2014 a group of Parents & Grandparents decided to break away from a previous club and set up a new football team for their children and Banstead Village Football Club was born. Among the group of parents, several kindly offered to take on vital roles within the club - one of which was Emily.
Despite already having been diagnosed with cancer - Emily took on the role of Treasurer and despite gruelling treatment she was often found on the touchline in all the elements cheering on her son and the rest of the team. Emily was a wife to Simon and a mum to two boys, Luca and Sacha. Emily was also a dance teacher at a school in Wallington and was loved & adored by students and parents alike - always smiling, happy and positive. Emily's favourite saying and one she lived by was 'Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass, it's about learning to dance in the rain'. Sadly, despite bravely fighting to the end - Emily lost that fight with Cancer and passed away in 2015.
The Banstead Village Family was born out of the close bond that we all shared and a common goal to make the club grow for the benefit of all the boys & girls in the local Banstead area.
We added the Emily Rose logo to the sleeves of our football kit and they are worn with pride on every shirt in the club in memory of Emily.
Every year we host a tournament with the winner receiving the Emily Rose Cup and the proceeds go to cancer charities. Our parents have participated in Race for Life and we continue to fundraise for Cancer Research in Emily's name. Emily's husband Simon, Emily's Parents & Sister are proud supporters of the event and always attend to present the medals and trophies to the children that participate.
Back in 2014 - we started with one team and wanted to achieve the goal of adding a new team to the club every season if possible.
Fast forward to 2019 and we now have 9 teams from the age of 7 years old through to 15. Last spring we also started a Saturday Soccer School for the local boys & girls aged 3-7. This has become hugely popular and it is truly wonderful to see the small children beginning to get a love of the game of football, gaining confidence and making life long friends.
Over the last few years our teams have been incredibly successful and have won several cups and league titles. This season our brand new Under 10 Team have achieved a place in the Cup Final, for which we are extremely proud of them. We are proud of all our Teams here at Banstead Village FC, and the ethos of the club is family, we pride ourselves on being a family club and thank all our parents for supporting this.
Our latest project........the reason for this page.
We are fundraising to reinstate a Pavilion in conjunction with the Trustees at our grounds, Garton Fields in Banstead. Unfortunately the original pavilion was destroyed by a fire many years ago.
The pavilion - THE EMILY ROSE PAVILION - would make such a difference to the boys & girls in the club, enabling them to have much needed facilities. We feel its a fitting tribute to Emily, after having done so much for the club we would like to honour her.
It will serve so many families for years & years to come, it is important to us we remember Emily and what better way to keep her dedication, commitment and character part of the club. Inspiring all that use it.
Having had extensive meetings with the Trustees, our aim is to provide a pavilion not only for the use of Banstead Village Football Club but also for the wider community to be able to use as well.
We will be hosting several fundraising events, with our main event a Football Fun Day at our ground on Sunday 25th August.
We hope you can support us in our fundraising efforts and our vision to not only benefit the local children in our family run club but also that of the local area.
Thank you
