BY ANY OTHER NAME - WEB SERIES
Following up on the award-winning documentary film, "By Any Other Name: An Exploration of Afro-Amerindian Heritage," filmmaker Steven D. Gayle will be continuing the conversation on the interactions between Africans and American Indians in the United States by producing a 10-episode first season of the "By Any Other Name" web series. This show will address historical and contemporary topics relating to the theme of Afro-Amerindian Heritage.
We're seeking funding of $12,240 in order to complete the series. Production is set to begin early summer 2018.
AFRO-AMERINDIAN CULTURAL AND RESEACH CENTER
Approximately $107,000 of funds raised will go toward the establishment and startup of a The Afro-Amerindian Cultural and Reseach Center (AACRC). The AACRC will be a nonprofit 501c3 with the purpose of providing an academic and cultural space to comprehensively explore the African and American Indian Diasporas. It will also provide programs and outlets to the community in order to mitigate the negative socioeconomic effects experienced by these diasporic communities.
African Americans Native Americans and Latino Americans often experience many of the negative socioeconomic issues of the day in greater number than other groups in the United States.
It is my belief that collectively these groups' respective histories and cultures are underrepresented and/or misrepresented. Addressing these groups' generational traumas, mental health needs, general empowerment, cultural understanding and education are key in developing stronger communities and encouraging intercultural healing. It will also be a platform for those outside of these groups to understand the various cultural perspectives.
It is also my goal to have academics from various disciplines all over the world to contribute to the research and outreach this center will provide.
The Center will accomplish this through a strategy we call P.R.E.P.
