This campaign is on behalf of my colleague, Kasia Grabska and myself. Kasia Grabska is a social anthropologist working on refugee issues and have been involved with IASFM sine 2004. She has also been involved in documentary production, the latest one 2 Girls which won two grand prix prizes at the Human Docn Film Festival in Warsaw and at the Rome International Film Festival in November 2016.
Between 2002 and 2006, Kasia worked closely with Dr. Barbara Harrell-Bond at the American University in Cairo, at the Forced Migration and Refugee Studies. In summer 2016, at the IASFM conference in Poznan, the idea emerged to make a short documentary film about the establishment of refugee studies through the life of Dr. Barbara Harrell-Bond, a distinguished and world-know academic and activist, and a founder of Refugee Studies Centre at Oxford University. She is one of the most dedicated persons many of us have ever met and a strong believer in refugee studies. Barbara has started this ambitious and amazing project called Rights in Exile-Refugee Legal Aid information http://www.refugeelegalaidinformation.org/. Together with others, we strongly believe that the memory and the history of refugee studies, as well as dedicated life of Barbara to the cause of refugees must be documented and preserved.
The short documentary is being produced by me jointly with a film company Capital Films based in London. We have managed to raise so far 65% of the funds needed to make the documentary. We still need to raise 3,300 GBP - British Pounds to be able to complete the project.
The money will be used mainly for editing and post-production of the documentary.
The funds are needed as soon as possible, by the 29th of June, 2017. The film will be released and available for viewing and screening for those interested by September 2017.
Your contribution, even the smallest one, means a lot for this special project to take life and for the rest of the world to see it. We are very thankful for all who are willing to help out! You can make a difference by helping us to preserve and tell the incredible story of Barbara Harrell-Bond and refugee studies.
Thank you!
