"The Cry Of The Child Preachers"

The campaign
We want to make the feature film The Cry of the Child Preachers ("Barfota Rop" in Swedish), which portrays a period in the history of Sweden when God used children in an amazing way to shake society. In the 1840's, Sweden was a country in misery and poverty and a law called the 'Conventicle Act' prohibited people to meet for prayer and Bible reading. 

During this time an extraordinary phenomenon occurred, where thousands of children felt the urge to "shout" out messages from God to the people. They often stood up on rocks or boxes to reach the adults with the messages of repentance and conversion. These events occurred in many different places independently of each other. The children became commonly known as "The Shouters" (Roparna).


The film
The film is about 14-year old Ophelia, who lives with her alcoholic father and her oppressed mother. Ophelia gets a dream from God and together with other children she starts "shouting out" for change. While the messages of the children start impacting the people, the rulers do everything they can to stop them. This is a film based on true events and is about the courage to live out God's calling in our lives no matter the circumstances.

Ophelia was one of thousands of "shouters" in Sweden during the 1840's. Most of them were young and poorly educated. The shouters influenced great areas of the country, but were treated cruelly by the ruling people, including the priests. After 3 years the shouts got silenced by the leaders of society. The children were pronounced idiots, and were tortured and were generally despised by the ruling people. But after them followed a strong grassroots and revival movement whom no one could stop.

In 1858, the Conventicle Act was withdrawn and again it became allowed to meet for prayer, worship and Bible study. In the wake of this, a great revival started bringing about profound change, and Ophelia got to see how Sweden slowly rose to its feet again.

We think it is time to lift the lid off these treasures and share the heritage of Sweden's spiritual history. We believe that this story has the power to encourage the new generations. The courage of children and young people can bring about change! As Jesus said, "If they (the adults) keep quiet, the stones will cry out!"




The production
It costs money to produce a feature film, and even if the majority of the people in the team would work as volunteers, we still need to hire a few professionals to make this possible. We will also have costs of renting equipment, acquiring props and decor, providing  food for crew and actors, as well as many other aspects of film production.

The format
This film will be around 75 minutes long and will be shot on digital cameras.

The budget goal
To be able to produce The Cry of the Child Preachers
 we will need 300,000 Swedish krona (approximately USD 35,000). "The shouters" in Sweden was a grassroots movement and now that we want to tell their story, we also want to reach out to the grassroots, to you who might not have great resources to contribute.
If only 300 people give 1,000 krona (approximately USD 117) we would have the production sealed. Would you like to stand in this?


Distribution and finance
The Cry of the Child Preachers will mainly be distributed via BluRay, DVD and streaming platforms.

While our motivation to make this film is not commercial and we are mainly looking to fund it via donations, we still think this film can have a positive financial outcome.

Kampanjen

Vi vill göra filmen Barfota Rop som handlar om ett skeende i Sveriges historia när Gud på ett häpnadsväckande sätt använder barn och unga för att skaka om hela samhällen. 1840-talet är Sverige ett land i misär och fattigdom under denna tid möter vi Roparrörelsen.

Filmen

Filmen handlar om Ophelia som lever med en alkoholiserad pappa och en förtryckt mamma, hon får en dröm från Gud och börjar tillsammans med många andra barn ropa ut till förändring. Barnens rop skakar om hela samhällen. Makthavarna gör allt för att stoppa barnens rop. 

Ophelia var en av tusentals ropare som levde på 1840-talet. De flesta var unga och olärda. Roparna skakade om hela samhällen, men de blev svårt ansatta av makthavarna. Efter 3 år tystnade ropen, efter gemensamma krafttag från samhällets övre skikt. Roparna idiotförklarades, torterades och var allmänt föraktade av makthavarna, men i deras spår föddes en gräsrotsrörelse som ingen människa hade makt att stoppa.

1858 upphävdes konventikelplakatet och det blev återigen fritt att samlas för att be, lovsjunga och läsa Bibeln. I denna mylla växer en rörelse fram som förvandlar landet, folkväckelsen börjar spira och Ophelia får vara med och se hur Sverige sakta men säkert kommer på fötter igen.

Vi tror det är tid att lyfta på locket till skattkistan och dela med oss av arvet från vår historia. Vi tror denna berättelse har kraft att ingjuta mod till den unga generationen.

Produktionen

Det kostar pengar att spela in en långfilm, så även om de flesta som är med i produktionen arbetar ideellt behövs det även professionella insatser för att filmen ska bli verklighet. Vi har ett produktionsteam som arbetar med filmen, utrustning behöver hyras, rekvisita inskaffas eller skapas, mat till hungriga skådespelare behöver köpas och en massa annat.

Målet

För att vi ska ha möjlighet att göra filmen behöver vi en budget på 300 000 kr. Roparna var en gräsrotsrörelse och då vi vill berätta deras historia, en historia där de små och obetydliga förändrade ett helt land, så vill vi också sträcka oss ut till "gräsrötterna", till dig som kanske inte har de stora resurserna att bidra med.
Om 300 personer ger 1000 kr har vi tillsammans möjliggjort filmen. Vill du stå med i detta arbete?

Att spela in film kostar mycket pengar. Det som kostar är arbetet, utrustning, kostym, rekvisita och andra utlägg som mat och boende för medverkande. Vi anlitar en mycket skicklig fotograf Simon Frisk, samt en drama kompositör Torbjörn Frisk. För regi står Urban Skargren och Maria Viklund.
