Opening an Autism Center in Vienna

Donation protected
My name is Tova Marr and I am the founder of Autism in Vienna: Beacon Beach House. I am a Canadian living in the amazing town of Vienna, Austria. I am also the mother to a wonderful little boy named Raphael. He is autistic and non-verbal and he is the light of my life.  3 years ago, our son was diagnosed with autism and it quickly became clear that support was lacking in this city.

Frustrated by the lack of information, apparent parent groups and even easy access to therapy and resources, I started a Facebook page called Autism in Vienna in September 2015.

This was the first small step in building a network of professionals and parents and providing infomation. It soon became clear that more was needed. In the past year and a half, we have been able to host therapy networking evenings, parent nights, seminars, a Santa meet and greet as well as a sensory-friendly movie afternoon but a lot more is needed.

In November 2016, with two friends, I was able to officially register as a "Verein" which is an Austrian not- for-profit club and we are now officially called Autismus in Wien: Beacon Beach House.

We are now looking to raise money so that by this Fall, we can open an actual location. The idea is to provide a playroom for children, a meeting area for parents and therapists and a space for seminars and events. My goal is to create a strong and empowered community of parents, specialists and supporters so that we can all work together to help improve the situation in this city. I do not want another parent to go through what we went through after our son was diagnosed. I am determined to bring more autism awareness to Austria and to ensure that there is enough support and resources for everyone.

The goal of 50,000 euros would help us secure a location and to cover rent and the running of the place for a solid two years. Over these two years, we would be able to grow and develop and become recognized as a strong provider of autism support in the city. There are no limits when it comes to autism and this center will prove that. Through art classes, yoga, seminars, parties, therapy groups and so much more, we can help families feel less marginalized and help people with autism be part of a community.

As a last note, I want to thank you for taking the time for reading this and if you are able to donate, I want to say thank you from the very bottom of my heart. This center will not only benefit children now, but so many in the future.

Thank you again,

Tova Marr
