When I quit my day job in August of 2016 to go full-time self-employed, I had no clue what to expect. I only knew it was going to be pretty rough for a little while. As it turns out four months later, "pretty rough" is a slight understatement.

Still, I will not be deterred. I know this is what I'm supposed to do and things will work out as long as I keep plugging away. I've made some headway but unfortunately not enough.

I recently completed a situation review, which was really just me noticing a lot more bill payments than check deposits in my bank account, and decided something was surely needed, perhaps a new tool. However, because of the aforementioned dwindling financials, I am unable to afford new tools and I've pretty much reached my MacGyver'ing ceiling.

This is where I humbly ask for your help.

Good audio is important to what I do. I oftentimes have to narrate script and, well, to be honest, this entire time I've been doing it at my desk in my tiny apartment with no soundproofing and poor sonic quality.

Now, I don't know about you but when I need to think, I clean my apartment. As I was wondering what alterations to my path I could make, I opened the closet to retrieve the vacuum. As if the air escaping the closet was the idea I needed, it hit me and brushed what little hair I have back.

I am going to build a recording booth in my closet.

Fun visual quiz: Can you spot the cat?

For the last week I've been researching, measuring, noting, doing the math, and writing a plan.

I am setting a goal of $2000. In the name of transparency, I really only need about $250 for the bare-bones necessities to build the studio, including lighting and soundproofing. However, my equipment could use an upgrade, which is what the extra funds would go to. This would include better microphones, mixing software fees, and external storage for audio files in case a fan gets messy.

Once the minimum of $250 is met, I will make the first withdrawal, purchase the minimum items I need, then post receipts and pictures. Perhaps it'll look something like this:

Hey, I never said I was the drawing kind of artist.

Once the goal of $2000 is met, I will disable the GoFundMe drive and begin the upgrades. Sorry, no drawing for those.

Thanks for your generosity and taking the time to read this. I look forward to sharing with you the fruits of this endeavor.
