Sudden Job Loss and Truck Crisis

My sister Christina and brother-in-law Ben were just delivered some very bad news.  After a very recent and sudden job loss they have been informed the semi truck that is also their home actually has a large balance on it with a finance company.  They were told it was almost paid off; in fact they thought they only had 2 payments left.  The owner of the trucking company has been pocketing their payments rather than making the payment.  They just discovered that $20,000 is still owed on the truck.  As far as they know the finance company is not interested in reposessing the truck at this time but will settle for what is owed on it.  The owner also owes them over $10,000 in back pay and escrow account from the past several months, so their savings are already depleted.

Ben and Christina are not the only people the owner has wronged.  He owes much larger balances to family and the shop that worked on the trucks.  He has been evasive and refused to communicate with Ben and Christina in spite of repeated requests to give them the facts so they can plan their next move. They are currently stuck close to the home base of the trucking company looking for work and for a way to not lose their home and their only source of income.
