Benefit for Bette

Donación protegida
Our dear friend, Bette Kuss,  (long time resident of Cold Spring, Minnesota; wife to Duane Kuss and mother of high school grads Sam and Lillie Kuss),  has been hospitalized in Minneapolis for heart and respiratory failure since December, 2016. She is gradually recovering, but she needs our prayers and support.

Bette's story begins with Hodgkin ’s disease at age 19; she was given a 50/50 chance of survival.  The approach at the time was to use cobalt radiation to eliminate the lymphoma cancer.  Bette survived her cancer treatment and has lived cancer free for more than 40 years.  Sadly, the radiation treatments of the past began taking their toll on Bette's body, eventually weakening her heart and lungs. The deterioration developed into what would become a three-year battle with multiple surgeries and 10’s of thousands of dollars of medical bills. Bette has had two heart valve replacements and surgery on her lungs numerous times to remove fluid.  While her body is recovering, hospital bills have devastated the Kuss family finances. Donations will be used to pay medical expenses not covered by insurance.

People in Central Minnesota know Bette for her many years of teaching piano and accompanying various church, community, and school concerts and music productions.

Bette was a special education teacher at the Little Falls Middle School from 1979-1992. She enjoyed working with many special needs students over the years. Bette played piano for many school theatre performances and other musical events.

She also shared her musical talents in the community while she was a member of First Lutheran Church. She accompanied the First Lutheran Children's Choir as well as accompanying many church services and celebrations. She was a loving friend & special mentor to many!

For the past 25 years Bette has accompanied the Cold Spring Area Maennerchor, a 80 year tradition of men singing. She played piano for the group during their annual Octoberfest and Christmas celebrations, their 3 trips to Europe, and at the International Big Sing held in Marquette, Michigan. Bette has made a lasting impact with thousands of people in concert with the local men's chorus.

Especially memorable was the recent Great Northern Theatre production of ”The Sound Of Music", when Bette's entire family took part in the cast while she accompanied the orchestra.

We miss her music, her beautiful smile, and we long for her return.
