Support Ben Johnson's Family
Donation protected
UPDATE: The "Support Ben Johnson's Family" Go Fund Me page has been closed. Thank you to everyone that donated and helped the Johnson Family during their time of need. In true Ben fashion, Aaron and Tricia have created The Ben Johnson Memorial Fund, which will raise money in Ben's honor and be used, at a minimum, for a scholarship to a FIHS athlete. A new Go Fund Me page has been set up for that purpose. The link to that page is:

SCHOLARSHIP FUND: The Johnson family has been so humbled by the outpouring of love, prayers and support from family, friends and even complete strangers. Aaron and Tricia can't think of a better way to honor Ben than by creating a Memorial Scholarship Fund in his name. This fund will be used to provide a scholarship to a FIHS athlete that exhibit the qualities most like Ben...good character, leadership, heart and friendship. Any additional funds donated will be used for this scholarship fund.
SERVICES: Funeral Services will be held Monday, September 25, 2017 at 3pm at Christ’s Church Fleming Island. Visitation with the family will be Sunday, September 24, 2017 from 5-7pm, also at Christ’s Church Fleming Island.
UPDATE: It is with a sad heart that I update to say at 11:55am Ben was lifted up by God's arms and taken to his heavenly home. The family, in the most selfless way, has honored Ben's wishes to be an organ donor and are working with the organ donation team in hopes that through Ben's death others will have life. Please continue to pray for this family and everyone who was blessed to have known Ben.
Ben Johnson was a sophomore at Fleming Island High School. He was a tall, good looking, blonde haired kid. A football player, a baseball player, a brother, a son...the ring leader, the life of the party, and everyone’s good friend. As my son told me, he was more than a good friend…and that’s the best way to describe him. He was big Ben with a big laugh and a big presence and a big heart. Everyone that knew him, and even some that really didn’t, wanted to be around him
On Tuesday, at school, Ben collapsed during his weight training class and suffered a catastrophic, traumatic brain injury. The reason is still uncertain, and despite the efforts of EMS and then the doctors, he will not make a recovery.
The phone call received by Ben's parents that fateful Tuesday morning, is a phone call that no one should ever receive, a phone call that no one is ever prepared to receive. His parents Aaron and Tricia, his younger brother Tommy and his little sister Rachel, will have to figure out how to get up every day and go on with their lives without Ben. We can't begin to imagine how overwhelming that must be. Let's help them to not also be overwhelmed by medical expenses and funeral costs. No parent expects to bury their child, no parent prepares financially for that. The exorbitant costs will be a huge burden for this family. Together, we can help lift some of that burden.
The outpouring of love and support from family, friends and the community has been amazing. Let's continue that support in a way that will make a difference in the Johnson's lives at this time of sorrow and loss. No amount is too little. All funds donated will go directly to the Johnson family for medical bills and funeral expenses.
