Bever House First Responders Fund
Donation protected
We are raising money to purchase the house two brothers killed their parents, three of their five siblings, and severely wounded one of the other two siblings. It is our intent to purchase this house, which has been offered to us by the Lender for our intended use, for $50,000, well below the assessed value of $265,000, of which we have raised slightly over 20%. We have until April 7th to put a contract on the house or it will be placed on the open market to be purchased by anyone interested. By law it is not required that the tragedy be disclosed unless asked. Once purchased by the Tulsa Community Foundation, it will be donated to the City of Broken Arrow, which has agreed to demolish the house and turn the site into a Memorial Garden in honor of those lost, as well as in honor of the First Responders,. These Responders, who under extremely traumatic circumstances, encountered a horrific crime scene, but quickly moved into a professional mode to save one life, investigate a crime and apprehend the suspects. Few people realize the emotional impact this has on these Responders, who must deal throughout their careers with crimes one person inflicts on another, but when it involves children, killed and injured in such a horrible manner, they can never erase that image from their minds. However, if we can provide a place of healing and tranquility for them, and for the neighbors, it can at least help them begin the process. Even with the counseling provided to our Responders, each time they drive by this house, the imagine returns of what happened that night. So we as a community work to begin the healing; for the two young children who survived, though it may be years, if ever, that they will be able to return to this site to see what a community did to honor their family, as well as the two of them. For the First Responders, who we honor each and every day for what they do; and for the community of Broken Arrow, and the larger metro area, who experienced the pain of this tragic loss, even if for only a day or two, we feel compelled to do this today. We will build a Garden that will attract the Monarch butterfly on its migration back and forth across the country twice a year. A gazebo will be placed in the center of the Garden site, where people can come and just reflect on those honored here, or on their own family and friends who they have lost. As the City Councilor for this area, I was touched by this tragedy, more than I can ever put in the written word. As a formerTulsa Police Officer, I can relate to the emotion those First Responders encountered, though by the Grace of God, I never had to endure anything this terrible. Your help is needed, as time is running short, April the 7th is rapidly approaching. Your help is appreciated in making our goal a reality. Please donate here, or go to tulsacf.org/?=242 to make your donation tax deductible. All funds will be turned over to the Tulsa Community Foundation to help with the purchase of this house.
