Clean Water Initiatives
At Billikens for Clean Water (B4CW), our mission is in spreading awareness about the world water crisis, walking in solidarity with those without access to clean water, and funding clean water projects for those who need water the most. We have visions to provide access to clean water to those around the world that need it most -- one family and one community at a time.
With our Honduras water project completed in May 2018, B4CW simultaneously began working a Belize water initiative! Working in Belize is something that B4CW is very excited to embark on.
1. Assessment Trip 01 (Completed March 2018)
2. Assessment Trip 02 (Completed August 2018)
2. Implementation Trip ( Completed January 2019!!!)
3. Follow-Up
During Assessment 02 to the Toledo district of Belize, the B4CW team signed a Memorandum of Agreement with the community of San Lucas. In this agreement, we made the commitment to supply 25 LifeStraw Community units with a 5% contribution from each household. From that date forward, we embarked on a fundraising campaign which allowd us to deliver all 25 filters to San Lucas in January 2019.
Additionally, a very big part of our projects includes education workshops. On Assessment 02 in August 2018, we completed our first water workshop which was held at Corazon Creek High School. In this workshop, we educated the high school students on topics including hygiene, water quality, safe water sources, and water testing. The students had the opportunity to practice the water tests we conduct with hands-on learning stations. In the future, we hope to complete more of these workshops at this same high school, at new locations, and for a variety of age groups. During our Implementation Trip in January 2019, we were able to lead a second education workshop, this time at Julian Cho Technical High School. We used the same structure as our previous workshop and had a great experience working with the students.
In the past, we have completed other projects in Central America. Our most recent project prior to starting our Belize initiative was with the community of Nueva Esperanza, Honduras. For this community, we delivered LifeStraw Family units to each family in May 2018.
Thank you in advance for helping us make both of these projects possible!
You can donate and help sponsor this project by donating on this page! If it's one thing the communities of Nueva Esperanza and San Lucas have taught us, it's that a little can go a long way.
