Bioenergy System for Athos-Center
Donation protected
Athos-Center ”Panagia” serves, since 2013, as a center for Orthodox people in southern Finland and to all interested in the Christian tradition of the Orthodox Church.
We are hoping to create two monasteries on our grounds, one for men and one for women (for the moment there are only two orthodox monasteries in Finland). By the blessing of God we have good connections with the Holy Mountain of Athos in Greece. We organize pilgrimages, courses and seminars and also have services every day and receive visitors. Click here to see the web site of the Foundation. All the work is done by volunteers without payment or salary.
Our estate is large, consisting of 34 hectars of land and about 20 buildings. Because of the climate, energy needed for heating is very high. To move towards sustainability, two years ago we changed our heating system from fossile fuel base into using bioenergy from wood chips.
The urgent challenge we now have is to build a big storage silo for the wood chips before the winter. With this crowd funding initiative we are trying to get the work on the silo started as soon as possible. This matching funding is also crucial, because without it we will lose the financial support granted to us by the state (25% of the cost of the storage silo). The total cost of the silo is about 50.000 euro.
With your generous support we hope to succeed and to stay warm also next winter...
