Nude Violin Skydive for Body Image
On my 30th birthday on 27th Aug 2017 I jumped out of a plane nude and skydived playing the violin at 15,000 feet. It blew up in the media, and I want you to help me raise $1 for each foot I fell to do something about men's body image.
Men are pressured to silently suffer thanks to our modern idea of masculinity. While women are supported when they speak out and get help, men are often laughed at.
It's time to get real about this and end the cultural bullshit!
My story shows how bad male body image can get. For ten years I started silently sucking in my belly every day, building a mental and physical prison that brought my life to breaking point. I quit a successful career including the London Symphony Orchestra, and that's what happens when males don't speak out.
In my moment of no return I took control of my life and started doing things my way to heal my body and mind. I discovered taking my clothes off as a radical way to learn to accept myself, and now I want to help others.
I've chosen three life-changing charities for this GoFundMe who are going to tackle the issue of men's body image head-on.
The First $5000 will go to The Butterfly Foundation, Australia's national charity for eating disorders & body image since 2002 who do critical work to support those who suffer. They want to develop a targeted, prevention-focused education program for school boys aged 12-18 to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and encourage help-seeking. Things would have been different if I had this when I was thirteen!
The Second $5000 is going to Nude Movement, a groundbreaking charity who want to kickstart a scientific study validating naturism as an 'exposure therapy' for body image anxiety. This will legitimize social nudity as a respected therapy for mental health, and I'm not the only anecdotal subject out there!
The Third $5000 is going to The ManKind Project. This incredible charity teaches men to get real about their mental health through emotional intelligence. They will pilot a powerful men's body image workshop where men have to confront their bodies and shames once and for all. If the idea takes off in Australia, we can spread it worldwide!
Your donation will do something powerful. Let's end the stigma and end the silence today!
Change men and boy's lives, and donate to the Birthday Dive now.
