My only means of transportation is currently broken down. I own a 2004 Buick LeSabre.
It needs a new compressor kit and belts, totaling almost $700.
I make an okay amount of money at my job, but with bills and rent it would take me at least a month to save for these repairs. I don't have a month, as I need my car as soon as possible.
If you're asking, "Well aren't there other options available?"...
**I drive an hour to and from work 5 days a week. Missing work due to a broken down car could cost me my job. A job I like and that I need.
**I live in Texas and we don't have a very good public transit system outside major cities. There isn't even a bus stop near my apartment. My apartment is on a highway, so walking on the highway to get to a bus stop? I'd have to get a ride to get to a bus stop.
**My family and my roommate work similar hours and wouldn't be able to drive me or pick me up on a daily basis.
**The cost of an Uber/Lyft would be $30-40 PER RIDE. That's $60-80 a day I would have to spend to get to and from work.
My car is old and has one tire in the scrap yard, but she's the best transportation I have.
