Blessed Backpacks for FTKids
Donation protected
First Lutheran Church of the Trinity in Chicago's Bridgeport neighborhood serves hundreds of men, women and children each week through a service called
God's Closet.
It provide resources for community members in need in
a life-giving way, offering a "green" venue for the redistribution and re-purposing of clothing and other goods. We provide clothes, goods, meals and other services to the folks who join us.
We have noticed an increasing need in the number of schoolchildren who lack basic school supplies. These are kids who come to us brimming with questions, thirsting for knowledge and shining with talent. We spend hours sounding out words in books and on worksheets with the young ones, knowing how critical it is for them to have their reading skills firmly in place by the time they're in third grade. They shouldn't be held back from success because they can't afford pencils or notebook paper.
We're holding our first drive for backpacks and school supplies for all the children of the community.
Your money will be used to purchase new backpacks, pencils, pencil-top erasers, colored pencils, markers, school supply boxes, pocket folders, wide-ruled notebook paper, rulers, scissors, glue sticks and spiral notebooks.
Our goal is to give away 48 backpacks filled with basic school supplies on Sept. 4. We will hand them out on a first-come, first-serve basis, and bless them and the children for wonderful start to the school year.
We're in the home stretch, and we want to be sure we don't let any child leave empty-handed.
Please help us by donating what you can today.
We -- and the kids -- thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
