An IB Summer Project Abroad: Donation for Education
In the United States, we take for granted the availability of institutions such as education. We are able to stride into the worlds of elementary, middle, and high school with a possibility of college without having to worry about a lack of opportunity if we work hard enough. Elsewhere in the world, the option of progressing through the stages of schooling is limited not by hard work, but by a lack of opportunity to seek education.

Hi there, our names are Brian Lee, Sedique Pitsuwan-Meier, and Shubh Saxena. We are students taking part in the International Baccalaureate Program (IB) at Douglas County High School, Colorado. Through IB, we explored and make connections with people, places, and perceptions from all around the world. It moved us to look further into how we as students could take part more globally with people from around the world. As a part of the International Baccalaureate Program (IB), we were inspired to initiate a project to help out with the local or international community.

We decided to utilize this opportunity to extend a helping hand to Ban Sai Ploo Elementary School, a small school in the South of Thailand. Our project is called Books4Thailand. We will buy and bring books for the students’ library at the elementary school. In conjunction to giving books, we are fundraising to help the school with their infrastructure and the student’s school supplies.

We will travel to Thailand this summer of 2017. During this time, we will be documenting our experience their and provide a sort of pilot study from which our school could utilise and continue to develop after our initial work.
