BoomBap Therapy, the Album
Donation protected
It’s time to get this thing off the ground. I tell the story about the first rhyme I wrote, in first grade on the back of the school bus. Back then, I went by Disco G (it was 1979, what do you wan?) Fast foward to 1995 at PSU when my good friend Louis made me start really getting into this music mess. 3 wonderful kids and a series of jobs later and I can’t let it go. Big ups to my Gangstagrass family, but there’s a solo project buzzing in my brain that’s got to be born. under the auspices of Viola Publishing (named after my Mom, Claudia Viola Green) my first solo album, Boom Bap Therapy, will be born.
BoomBap Therapy is a 12 track opus, dedicated to the sounds that formed my own hip hop essence (corny, I know, but I wasn't sure how else to phrase it.) It's a collection of new tracks by yours truly, surrounded by friends and family including DJ YNOT, Dolio the Sleuth of Gangstagrass and Mental Advisory, my Flight Brother Ad-Liberal and TheOneShanti, just to name a few.
The funds amassed here will go to the production and distribution of the aforementioned album and subsequent merchandise to go along with it, for sale on tour with Gangstagrass and at http://r-sonthevoiceofreason.bandcamp.com/. Just so you know I'm not pulling your collective legs, each recording session will be accompanied by a short video of the ins and outs of it and small snippet of the track pre-completion.
Why am I going this route you may ask? Well, to be honest, being a full-time Dad/part-time MC, Comic Book Jedi and Black Tribble, while all dreams come true, isn't allowing me the time nor resources to get this project completed. Plus, many of the other crowd-sourcing sites have time limits that make it more difficult than my current SuperDad schedule allows for. "So, go get a real job, Ran!" Yes, that is a possiblity. I could walk away from all of this, pack up my mic and go work for (insert Corproation here). BUT...that'd be akin to removing my heart and soul and taking said job. Plus, I tried that once before. The mic and the stage and the booth kept calling me back. My Gangstagrass work is some of the greatest I've ever done but I've amassed a sufficient amount to put together the solo album I've always wanted to do. That's where you all come in...
We're getting started ASAP. The first batch of funds will put together the first gift for donations, an EP of early and current work that's finally been compiled in one place and an assortment of the R-SON tees to take on the road with Gangstagrass, starting May 31st. Subsequent donations will fund studio time, and the actual creation of the album (artwork, etc.).
The breakdown is as follows...
$15+ Donations- The album, BoomBap Therapy. Each album will be sent out upon completion because EVERYONE who donates will be thanked in the album liner notes Album liner notes were always a favorite thing of mine. There are a couple that I even made it on and it's a good feeling to have someone shout you out in the midst of their creative process.
$25+ Donations- The album, BoomBap Therapy and a copy of the EP The Art of Words (the bookend to the first EP I ever did, Words of Art)
$50+ Donations- The album, the EP AND an official R-SON the Voice of Reason tee shirt (available in Black, Royal Blue and Light Grey (make sure to provide your size)
$75+ Donations- The album, the EP, the shirt, AND a personalized video from me thanking you for your support in this endeavor
$100+ Donations- The album, the EP, the shirt, the thank you video AND a spot on the album's intro or outro. It'll be fun having you in the booth or you can send me WHATEVER you want to add to that track.(that said, please no insults or that sort of thing. I want you to be a part of this but if it's unacceptable well...)
I don't go about this lightly. This isn't something on a whim or out of the blue. It's years of planning and debating and working out the kinks of a hundred different aspects and avenues in the life of the DadMC. But, as I said it's about that time. Your help is greatly appreciated in this endeavor and with it, we're going to make a masterpiece.
UPDATE: This has take more time and resources than originally anticipated. Some family drama and such has slowed us down but it isn't stopping the process. We've added a couple of people and a couple of tracks and are going to give a little more to EVERYONE who's given us anything to help make this album a reality. Thanks again for all of your support!
