Lori's Documentary Camera

This summer I will be shooting the short documentary which will also be my capstone (thesis) for CUNY Graduate School of Journalism. In the fall, my final semester, I'll be editing the final cut.
Born in August will be about transgender issues, but also about mental health issues surrounding both trauma and identity.
Adolescence is the period when perhaps the most complex and difficult issues of identity rise to the
surface demanding attention be paid. Teenage angst is one of the most portrayed aspects of young adulthood in art. But what happens when the identity issues are as fundamental as gender? When a teenager decides to cement their lives in the gender they identify with, as opposed to the one assigned by society? And after the decision is made what kind of pressures are applied to that person’s mental health as they attempt to leave these transitional years behind to begin a life as the person they have chosen to be?
These are all questions I hope to explore with August, the extradinary young transgender student I met last summer - someone who is showing the courage of vulnerability in order to help others who are facing the same challenges.
I am trying to fund a camera for the project.
And this is what it can do.
I can check out cameras from school, but I have found the best moments are the ones without the intrusion of a traditional camera. The Osmo is one I would be able to carry in my backpack, always ready to shoot when the time is right.
It also solves another critically imortant problem for me: My hands shake, and this amazing camera will erase that deficit for me.
Of course, I would also like to use it for other work as well and again the mobile nature of this camera would mean I would be ready to film newsworthy events or simply beautiful things I come across and want to share.
Any help is more appreciated than you know.
Love,
Lori
