Boys With A Purpose

Donation protected
Many children in today's world grow up in an environment with no guidance from a father or father figure. Often times they emulate what they see in the streets because it is all they know. Their lack of guidance early in life often leads to disruptive behavior in school and in the world. Many of these young boys are disrespectful to their teachers and authority. These habits often lead to problems at home and in the future.

In 2016 I came across a story about some local role models for young boys. Mr. Raymond Nelson III and Mr. Kenneth Joyner created the organization  “Boys with a Purpose”. The program was designed specifically for young male students at Memminger Elementary in Charleston, South Carolina. They have since partnered with the College of Charleston to meet weekly as an after school program.

The purpose of the club is to teach young men how  to dress and conduct themselves like gentlemen and find their purpose in life. Every week the club has a meeting and they are are taught how to properly shake hands, open doors, make eye contact and address their peers and adults with respect. The motto for this group… "Look good, feel good, do good”. Mr. Nelson and Mr. Joyner have been providing jackets, vests, ties and shoes for children who do not have their own. I have the utmost respect for Mr. Nelson and Mr. Joyner for their efforts. They have a heart of gold.

I tracked Mr. Nelson down to see if the program is still active and if there was anything we all could do to help. He said that they would appreciate any contributions to the cause. They will gladly receive, purchase and distribute clothes, jackets and shoes to those in need. The majority of the young gentlemen are between the ages of 5-11. Awareness and action of this program will help children in our community. His mission is to implement similar programs around the country.

If you would like to help there are several things you can do:
