Black and Pink Chicago Reentry Fund
Donation protected
Black and Pink is an open family of LGBTQ prisoners and "free world" allies who support each other, and the Chicago chapter is starting a fund to support people getting out!
The harm that the prison industrial complex causes to a person does not end when they are released from prison. Newly released members are faced with the challenges of finding housing, employment, and meeting their basic needs, often with minimal to zero financial resources. Newly released members often have very little guidance on how to access needed services and are faced with discrimination at every turn.
As we work toward an end goal of prison abolition, it is important that we do what we can to reduce the harm the system causes until that happens. One very important way to do so is to give support to newly released members. This reduces the financial burden so they can focus on rebuilding their lives outside and (if they choose to) taking the lead on strategizing how to tear this whole oppressive system down.
Your donation can help a newly released member get access to:
-a transit card
-short term housing in a hotel or hostel
-housing in a halfway house or apartment
-food
-clothing
-toiletries and other essentials
-medical and legal needs
In addition to supporting newly released Black and Pink members, you will receive the following incentives for your donation:
-$5 - Black and Pink sticker
-$15 - patches made by Kim
-$30 - Black and Pink T-shirt
-$100 - we'll name our precious filing cabinet after you!
Thank you for your support!
