October of last year I found myself regaining conciousnes on a hotel room floor in San Antonio.
I had just arrived with my husband and children on a family getaway and as an informal early celebration of my oldest daughter turning 5 years old.
As I stood up; I remember feeling as if my soul had left my body. I had to look down at my legs to make sure they were actually there as the feeling in them was virtually gone. I stumbled to the mirror and saw a blood flowing from a large gash beneath my eye down my already blood stained face. The flesh my brow bone swelling at Looney Tunes cartoon character speed.
I looked in horror as I realized the attacker was the man that I trusted my mind, body,soul,and Spirit to. The one who I had given my life to.The person who child I had come near death bringing into this world.
As my four month old baby girl and soon four year old daughter slept anxiously awaiting to wake up and go to Sea World; their mother had become one of the 1 in 4...That staggering number is only the census on women who actually report the violence.
Physical violence has a several components. Once the Abuser realizes that the Victim is breaking away; and often times before, the attack on the financial well being of the one they wish to control is implemented in an attempt to further inflict pain and make it difficult to nearly impossible for the Victim to be able to afford Legal Representation.
Within a week of him being arrested for the attack; he realized I wasn't allowing him back into the house. After being served with a Protective Order; he blocked my access to our shared account,STOLE MY MONEY and put it in another account. He then opened a new account where he would deposit small increments of money to me for bare necessities like diapers and baby formula. He continued to try to get me to drop the Protection Order; and when he saw I would not budge; in violation of a Court order turned off all credit cards and removed me as his beneficiary. He continued to threaten to file for divorce if I didn't drop the Protection Order. As you can guess; a Protective Order case has turned into a divorce case .
He completely abandoned the children physically,emotionally,and financially and he is actively in audacious pursuit of asking the Courts to grant him custody of our 12 month old baby after not asking to spend ONE MINUTE with her in the past 9 months in hopes of evading child support.
I am humbly asking my friends to come together with me to help Justice for myself and my children be served.
I have uncovered some very unsettling facts about the person I trusted my life with. If these facts are not presented properly; the safety and lively-hood of an innocent baby will be in put at stake.
This case is going to require a lot of time and attention as my new Attorney will need to be paid for her skillfully directed energy to paint an accurate picture to the Courts if effort to protect my children and I. Most certainly; I would not be fighting this fight if it were not for the future and safety of my children.
I was in the local law library preparing to represent myself when an Attorney interrupted
me as he noticed I had spent countless hours working in there that week. I explained my situation to him; emphasizing the fact that the crime against me occoured on Federal property. Subsequently the Military powers with jurisdiction over the case told me to go with my abuser to counseling. When I would not comply with their suggestion they proceeded to cover up the crime of the soldier and suggested to me that I and my kids just "get out of town" ....
Upon hearing the details of my
case the attorney at the law library that day immediately suggested the
name of a prominent,powerful, effective Attorney who is highly skilled in these types of cases. He described her as a fighter for women who have been not given Justice for crimes committed against them on Tribal and Federal Property; two places in the United States where local law enforcement cannot help a civilian. He gave me her name and number and I immediately called. I actually ended up meeting her within 24 hours of his suggestion.
There is just one thing standing in my way of pursuing Justice on an equal playing field against opposing counsel; that is the money to retain her services. The attorney that my Abuser has was actually retained with MY money. I'm reaching out to all of you to help me show this "Golliath" that I am facing is nothing compared to the Power of the GOD. For all those who are lead to plant a financial seed help me along this journey; I will be forever grateful. A victory for one Domestic Violence victim can have an avalanche effect; helping silent victims break free,break the silence, speak out,and get out safely.
