Our loving son Brian died unexpectedly while living and working in Istanbul Turkey. Excelsior Springs was Brian's home until his last year in high school. Interlochen Fine Arts Academy in Michigan gave Brian the early preparation for his artistic life. Brian graduated from Bard in 1999 with a degree in Literature and Photography. Brian became an architectural photographer. He shot haunting exteriors and interiors of war torn cities in Afghanistan, Uzbekistan and Lebanon. His work also took him to India, Russia, and Turkey. Brian's photography was highly reviewed in the New Yorker magazine and his art was featured in galleries around the world. Recently he was working for Cornucopia magazine in Turkey. Brian said architecture and cities are what we all leave behind .
While living with his loving and supportive girlfiend Ai Kijima , they spent years traveling and producing their art. They inspired each other. He called her "his angel".
Brian's laughter and wit charmed everyone he met. He was fearless and bold. Brian was a raconteur and held people spellbound with his many adventures most people would not experience in twice his lifetime.
Brian will be missed by his younger brother Kyle and his wife Laura.
While walking outside his apartment April 19, he collapsed and died. We are of course beyond grief stricken. The transportation of Brian and his photographic equipment is beyond the resources of our family. We are grateful for any and all contributions.
Thank You
Kathi and Chuck McKee
