Help us keep Brienne the Dragon in Renton!
If you have not witnessed her in person, you must. There is a mysterious beauty and creativity to her. Breanne could truly become Renton's equivalent of the Fremont troll. She was created for the city of Renton and now we need your to help keep her here.
Renton is a city ever evolving and on the rise.
With a population that has almost doubled in a decade, it's a gateway to capturing the spirit of the Northwest. There's whimsy in this town that houses creative folks who march to their own beat. Renton Washington is a mosaic of people, places and stories. Largely because every corner of the world has found a home here.
A city that brings in people such as Kim Beaton. An internationally acclaimed sculptor who overcame the toxins in traditional sculpting materials and developed Pal Tiya , a new product that is safe for children and will last 100s of years. A product that's premiering it's US release in Renton. Kim is well known for her creations that illustrate fantastical themes. Dragons in particular, fierce and formidable, yet inspiring to imaginations worldwide.
Kim and the Pal Tiya team wanted to help create an inspiring piece in association with Renton's inaugural comic book convention. Brienne is currently housed at Arts Unlimited in downtown Renton. Soon to be sold and possibly purchased by someone who will take her away. We want to ensure that Brienne stays in Renton and is part of “Art in Public Places”.
BIO:
Kim Beaton has been a sculptor for over twenty years. Her most recent accomplishments include several years working on the three Hobbit movies at the prestigious Weta Workshop in New Zealand. She continues to this day to work in Film, Television and Public Art. Her sculptures are regularly displayed at the Bellagio Casino in Las Vegas. Kim is a talented artist with excellence in anatomy, human figure and large scale projects. She is also a vibrant and engaging teacher, business woman and inventor.
Kim's greatest passions are large outdoor and classical sculpture. By far, her favorites are those involving themes from children's literature and mythology. Kim believes the fascination and magic of these images have a special power on their own. By making them real, she taps into a deeper universal voice of storytelling.
