Bringing Shane Home

Donation protected
Shane is home now.
It is with abundant gratitude that we thank each and every one of you who have contributed your time, memories, and financial assistance. Getting Shane home on a flight with the 3 persons who were in Chicago to get him and bring him home (Vincent, Tonya, and Tracy) was more costly than anyone could forsee. In this extreme circumstance we really owe it all to your kindness that he is home now, and that we were able to give him a memorial and service so full of love and spirit.
We are in mourning, and appreciative of your unending support.
Thank you.
We love you, Shane.

Memorial services for Shane will be held Friday the 14th and Tuesday the 18th in San Clemete, CA. Shane's family is all rallying together to give him the memorial that he deserves, family from Colorado to the Dominican Republic will join us to honor Shane and celebrate his life while committing ourselves to continuing his legacy of social justice and mental health. Our family is offering a $2,000 reward for anyone who can help identify the suspects involved in Shane's murder. Expenses are now covering accommodations for our family to get to Shane's memorial and grieve his loss, far too soon, and celebrate his life. Vincent plans to return to Evanston, IL, to the condo he and Shane invested their lives in, together, and potentially run for mayor of Chicago, being a grassroots person on the ground committed to creating positive change in social justice and gun safety in memory and in honor of Shane Colombo.**
Shane: fiancé; PhD student; social justice advocate; son; brother; advocate for mental health and nonviolent person; survivor of lymphoma at 15; who lived each day with tenacious determination to live life fully, without believing he "couldn't"; who sparked love and light in the hearts and minds of so many in his 25 years, was taken from us too early. Shane was murdered in crossfire; a victim of senseless gun violence only hours after moving into his new home in Chicago. He was to begin his PhD studies in Psychology at Northwestern University, and finally unite with his fiancé, Vincent, and grow the roots of their family as they had recently purchased a condo together. After talking with his fiancé about going out to put the finishing touches on his first day in the city by purchasing some clothes hangers from a local store, grabbing a drink and checking out a local bar, and catching the bus back to his condo, Shane should have been in for a menial night which ended with him sleeping soundly. Unfortunately, Shane was caught in the crossfire of gang violence while awaiting that bus, and he never made it home. Always the light of the room, Shane will be remembered as being a passionate, kind, intelligent, patient, and loving person. Shane was a son, brother, fiancé, uncle, and friend to all. We ask that you remember Shane for the beautiful person that he is: fiercely passionate, full of love, beauty and art in all of its forms, music, and humor. This act of violence which has taken Shane from this world too early has left his family with the mentally heartbreaking and financially daunting task of now bringing Shane back home to California so he can finally rest. Vincent, and Shane's mother Tonya and his aunt Tracy, are currently in Chicago handling his affairs and will need help financially to cover the costs of bringing Shane home, as well as help with expenses of a memorial for this beloved person who was taken from us all too early. Thank you for remembering Shane in the comments section. This will bring his family great comfort in the weeks and months and years to come, when we are left still questioning why, and any financial help will directly benefit Shane's end of life expenses, which were not anticipated after such a short time here on Earth.
Shane is survived by his fiance Vincent, his mother Tonya, his grandmother Louise, his father Ernesto, his older brother Dane, niece Molly and her mother Chelsea, and his younger brother and sister, Gabe and Ariel, his younger brother Lorenzo and step-brother Izaak,  aunts,  uncles, and cousins and many family members both biological and chosen. He will be greatly missed by us all.
All funds are allocated to Vincent Perez, for the cost of travel and accomodations for Shane's family to attend his memorial services, and any additional funds will go towards the condo purchased by Shane and Vincent. Memorial services will be next week. This will be updated with details.
