Elective placement in Sri Lanka

Donation protected

I am currently studying to be a nurse at the University of Nottingham and planning to travel to Kandy in Sri Lanka for my elective placement next year. I am looking for a sponsorship or donation to help me fund my travels whilst I help the local community with their health care needs.

Sri Lanka has an extensive network of public health units across the island in which I would be volunteering at. Whilst achievements have been made to reduce preventable diseases such as malaria, HIV, syphilis and diarrhoea, noncommunicable diseases such as diabetes, cancers and respiratory diseases are on the rise in Sri Lanka. It will be from my help and others involved that they will gain new information and be educated on how to reduce these too. It will also give me a greater insight into the healthcare systems in less developed countries and how they manage such serious illness. This will allow for me to gain new skills that will help me to develop as a nurse and be used in my future nursing practice here in the United Kingdom. I will spend my spare time in the local communities to widen their knowledge and educate them about health care. As well as this, I will take lessons to learn their language which allows for a different learning opportunity for me.

am aiming to raise £2500 and currently have just over £400 towards my travels from the help of other generous companies. You do not have to give money as I am also looking to hold a raffle so anything that can be put into this would be extremely helpful and appreciated.

I will be using your generous donation to help fund my trip with Work the World who are a leading provider of tailored healthcare electives and internships. Recommended by international universities and NGO's, Work the World's highly structured overseas placements are designed to help students gain experience treating diseases and advanced pathologies that are rare in the Western world. They also provide students with the opportunity to witness the challenge of global health delivery firsthand, and where appropriate, use skills acquired in their training to support healthcare staff overseas.

As you can tell, I am very passionate student nurse looking for some help to increase my learning and knowledge around global health. This will have a huge impact on me and my studies and your donation will be very much appreciated.
