Building Schools in Selela Tanzania
Donation protected
During a visit to the village of Selela, located in the Arusha region of northern Tanzania, Fadeke Omideyi (The founder of Sower Care) and her team quickly became aware of the needs of this deeply rural, under resourced and very primitive part of the country. This part of the country is characterised by the ancient Maasai tribe, who are historically known as warriors and their culture revolves around their cattle.
After visiting schools in nearby Ndinyika and Nadosoito, - sub - villages of Selela, they were heartbroken to witness the extreme lack of resources within the schools which is the reason for this project.
Ndinyika Primary school currently has 3 poorly equipped classrooms catering for 348 pupils. This means pupils from different class/study levels share rooms. The younger children aged 4 - 6 years are taught under a tree.
There is a pledge from the government to send teachers to the school with the condition that the school provides accommodation for the prospective teachers. This is almost an impossible situation as they do not have the structure or resources to make this a reality.
The Need
• Construction of two classes at the cost of £6800 each (£13,600)
• Construction of two houses to accommodate teachers at £6560 each (£13,120).
Nadosoito Nursery school The nursery school is a small room constructed with bamboos and mud. The room has no table or chairs and is overcrowded with over 60 children, sitting on the mud floor.
Our Objective: To contribute to quality education for the pupils by building well-equipped classrooms to reduce overcrowding.
The Need
Renovation of 2 existing structures to use as classrooms at the cost of £5100 each (£10,200)
WIth your help we can make a difference!
