BOATS DESTROYED WHEN TREE FALLS ON BOATHOUSE!!!

We are Burton Beach Rowing Club (BBRC):
In January 2018, BBRC was formed to fulfill the need for a highly competitive junior rowing program on Vashon Island, WA. Within a few weeks we had 6 boats, 10 rowers, a world class coach and thanks to the generous support from Camp Burton we had a launch site and a home for our boathouse. Our inaugural season was a smashing success, bringing home multiple medals at each event we participated in. Two of our rowers qualified for the USRowing’s Youth National Championships where BBRC was the youngest club there out of nearly 150 clubs from across the country.

What happened?
With success and enthusiasm comes reputation, and the demand for membership exceeds the number of boat seats we have available. BBRC had just started our campaign to raise funds for additional boats to fulfill the needs of our growing club when tragedy struck on Saturday, July 7th at 3pm… a madrone tree fell directly onto our boathouse. Miraculously no one was hurt as we had rowers training earlier in the day. Our boathouse is destroyed, all but one of our boats sustained damage and after the initial assessment only two of the damaged boats are repairable. All boats were insured, but deductibles need to be paid and anyone who has had a car accident knows what insurance pays never actually covers the cost to replace.
