Robert Rose Foundation

The Robert Rose Foundation was created in 1999, soon after the death of Robert Rose. Robert, a brilliant sportsman, who played AFL for Collingwood and Footscray and cricket for Victoria, became a quadriplegic at 22 years of age after a car accident in 1974. For 25 years thereafter, Robert's passion for sport never diminished, however, he had to cope with being the observer rather than the player.

Robert's family, led by his father, Collingwood football legend Bob Rose, created the Foundation soon after Robert's passing, to assist those with spinal cord injuries and their families who are in necessitous circumstances.

Following the passing of Bob in 2003, his brother Kevin, (uncle to Robert) stepped in to assist with the Foundation's work.  

Funds raised by the Foundation go towards providing support to those with spinal cord injuries and their families who don't necessarily have access to other means of funding. Funding support is used for Spinal Cord Injured (SCI) equipment, sporting equipment, home modifications and further education programs.  Applications for this Funding support requires the advice and assistance of a professional medical practitioner, physiotherapist, or occupational therapist etc...  

Additional support is also accessible via the counselling services that together Independence Australia and the Robert Rose Foundation provide on an ongoing basis. 

We hope that by creating this website we can reach out to the SCI community and provide helpful and informative links, including counselling support details, links to discussion forums and other links to assist the SCI community.

By providing the SCI community the opportunity to access many SCI resources, we hope this can assist in relieving the pressures faced in everyday challenges.
