LVN-BSN: Tuition assistance!

Donation protected
My goal is to raise $45,000 total to complete the 2 year LVN-BSN accelerated nursing program, to start/finish school as planned or else I will be forced to pass up this opportunity. I currently work full-time as an Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) at a Sub-Acute/Rehab facility in Riverside, Ca. I work nights so that I am able to attend school and be able to continue to pay monthly bills and have a roof over my head-any leftover money going towards my tuition. I have exhausted all of my resources except the Military for now. I currently have financial aid but not covering the full amount. I have applied for private student loans (and approved, but not approved on my own since I don’t have "enough" credit. "no/not enough credit history is worse than bad credit"). Everyone that I have asked either is not able to take on that kind of responsibility or has children of their own in college and is not able to. I know the difficulty of trying to find a cosigner first hand.  All my life I have been taught that you have to put in the work for what you want but ask for help/guidance if needed - that being said I continue to do so and as much as I hate to ask for help I have stepped outside of my box and have been doing so these last couple months. Several family friends have come up with the idea to set up this fund raising website so here I am! There is nothing I want more than to continue with my education as part of the accelerated LVN-BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing). If everything works as planned I will be graduating Class of October 2016. I have faith that something will work out. Below is a small part of my personal statement. I want you to know the story behind this determined hard working young lady!
"My interest in nursing began while in high school as part of a community service activity at my local hospital, Kaiser Permanente, in the Ambulatory Surgery Center. I had the opportunity to work closely with patients and interact with doctors and nurses. The act of helping others came naturally to me and was something I really enjoyed. After high school, I knew that my previous hospital experience was something that I wanted to pursue further, so I became a C.N.A. Later I applied and was granted an internship in the emergency room and various departments at the same hospital. Two to three times each week, I had the opportunity to work even closer with medical staff and patients for the next two years. During this time, it became clear that nursing was exactly where I wanted to be! While attending school and completing my hospital internship. I soon had experience working in acute, sub-acute, skilled and assisted living facilities. I then decided to further my education, but due to finances, and my experience in different nursing settings for the past five years, I determined that challenging the L.V.N. board was the best option for me. Throughout this time, I was attending my local junior college to finish the prerequisites for bachelors programs in nursing. In 2011, my mum was diagnosed with stage IV breast cancer and complications had came along with it and was quickly declining. I continued with school and challenging the boards. I soon had to take on the responsibility of caring for my mum, as well as look over my two younger siblings. A few months after my mum passed away, in November of 2012, I successfully challenged the LVN board and later passed the NCLEX. I currently work in a sub-acute/rehab facility as a nurse and love it! My experiences, as well as my trials, have played a large role in developing my interest in nursing. I never thought that my high school volunteer experience would turn out to be something I enjoyed so much.
I feel that altruism, truth and wholeness play a particularly significant role in my life. Altruism and self-sacrifice are very similar to me. It’s not only important to be selfless in the nursing field but it’s a character trait that I have been taught from a very young age. My mum, who raised me and my siblings as a single parent, taught me through her actions what it meant to be selfless. She taught me what it means to completely disregard your needs temporarily for the benefit of others. I strive to exhibit this character because I feel that Christ set the highest standard for our following and my aim is to be more like Him. Truthfulness is an important quality to have because truth defines who you are as a person. I feel that how truthful someone is, largely defines what type of person they are. Ethically, truth is an extremely important part of patient care. From personal experience, I know what importance it holds to families and patients in need. I feel that the concept of wholeness is a way that we can become closer to the state that G-d wants us to be. We should be balanced in all things, whether physical or spiritual. Physical well being and completeness are important values that relate directly to patient care and welfare.
Volunteer work is something that I have made myself available for whenever my circumstances have allowed. I have enjoyed participating in community service and hospital volunteer activities and through these activities, I have learned a great deal about myself and about treating others. Since I was much younger, I have been involved in a wide range of activities including my local church food closet, feeding the homeless, visiting residents at convalescent homes and internships in hospital settings. I am grateful for my many volunteer experiences because they have taught me the importance of serving others. Not
only have these experiences offered me a sense of fulfillment but have also taught me a great deal about medical care and have granted me education that would be very costly outside of the setting I received it."

I am not ready to give up yet..If you were unfortunate enough to end up in the hospital, I am the type of nurse you would want by your side. I am caring and compassionate. I advocate for my patients to help meet their needs. My whole focus is patient-centered care and doing what I can within my scope to help you feel and get better. Before getting accepted into West Coast University, I attended Sacramento City College, Cosumnes River College simultaneously when living in Northern CA & San Bernardino Valley College when I moved to Southern CA to finish my prerequisites for my BSN taking at least 3 classes per semester while working fulltime (sometimes working 3 jobs at one time). As some of you may know the science prerequisite courses expire after 5 years (meaning that you cannot use them and have to take the course over) my 5 years for some of the science courses are approaching and is why I strive to start & finish school before all my hard work becomes or means nothing. It has taken a lot of time management and sleepless nights to reach this point, but it was more than worth it & am prepared to continue with these sleepless nights!

This is me - I am a hard-worker and I hope to walk with my future classmates in October 2016. Despite how challenging it was to get to this point in my studies, I got here and want to further my education.
Please take the time to spread the word by forwarding this link to 10 of your friends who would be interested in helping a good cause. Donations can be made here or directly to the school at:

Some of you may be wondering what will happen if I do not meet the goal and deadline. I promise I will not run away to a different country with the funds. When donations are made to the school, the school holds onto the funds until the account balance is paid off. (If you plan to donate that route please let me know and I will give you the specifics.) I plan & will keep you ALL updated on my journey. Im not to sure how this works but if you have any additional questions regarding anything please feel free to ask.
