Matthew Wright is a 29 year old British architect living in Copenhagen. He has recently been involved with natural building projects and workshops with a focus on earth architecture, in Ghana and Morocco and is currently volunteering in Sierra Leone as a site manager for Architects Sans Frontières.
Reintje Jacobs is a 24 year old Belgian architect. After taking part in various earth construction projects and workshops in Burundi and Morocco as a student, she is currently seeking to continue her work in the fields of social and sustainable architecture, both in Belgium and abroad.
Anaïs Pereira is a 24 year old French architecture student living in Brussels. She is now on a gap year to participate in many workshops and trainings invol- ving different building materials. You can follow her activities on: www.anaispereira.com
Thomas Noceto is a French architecture student and photographer living in Brussels. He will participate in this phase of the project and produce a report.
We are three friends with the shared ambition to generate a positive and sustainable social impact through our projects. In cooperation with Sven Mouton, a Belgian architect and urban planner specialised in bamboo constructions and co-founder of Bamboostic (www. bamboostic.be) we are launching a humanitarian and ecological project with the people of Camburi, a coastal village in the Ubatuba region on the border between the states of São Paolo and Rio de Janeiro.
Bamboostic was created in 2004 by a team of volunteers in the village of Camburi, in the South of Brazil. Camburi is located in the national park of Serra Do Mar, in the middle of the Atlantic Forest (Mata Atlântica). Because of the harsh restrictions enforced by local environmental legislations since 1977, the population is still facing severe poverty today. Agriculture and fishing were prohibited, thereby removing the people’s income. Since 2004, in cooperation with the national park, Bamboostic has been training the locals in the fields of bamboo construction and tourism to generate new sources of income, while at the same time respecting the existing environmental legislation.
Today, the very lively and driven community of Camburi needs new buildings, such as a community bakery thanks to which the people can generate additional sources of income, or new class- rooms for the existing school which haven’t been completed due to a lack of funds.
The first phase of our project will take place from September 5th until October 6th 2016. On site, we will consult the people about their needs and get a basic training in bamboo construction. Meanwhile, together with the community, we will start up the design of the project. We will then return home with all the information needed to send our funding applications to several public funders who will help us with the next phase of the project : its construction !
But before we leave for Camburi, we will need your help ! As our public funders aren’t able to finance our personal expenses for this first phase, we have launched this crowdfunding campaign.
Hereby, we would like to gather 4000€ for the whole team. The collected sum will be used to cover our travel costs and visas as well as our living expenses in Brazil. We will be living in with the people of Camburi and will thereby share in the costs of the household as well. Any extra budget collected will be transfered to the next phase of the project.

Nous sommes trois amis architectes qui avons pour ambition de générer un impact social positif et durable à travers nos projets. Bamboostic a été créé par une équipe de volontaires dans le village de Camburi, dans le sud du Brésil. Camburi est situé dans le parc national de Serra Do Mar, au milieu de la forêt tropicale atlantique. A cause des restrictions sévères que la législation environnementale impose dans la région depuis 1977, la population connait de graves problèmes de pauvreté. Agriculture et pêche furent interdites, supprimant ainsi les revenus économiques des habitants. Depuis 2004, en collaboration avec le parc national, Bamboostic organise des formations de construction en bambou afin de générer de nouvelles sources de revenus pour les habitants, tout en respectant la législation environnementale existante.
Aujourd’hui, les habitants ambitieux de Camburi ont besoin de plusieurs constructions dont une boulangerie communautaire grâce à laquelle la communauté pourra générer des revenus supplémentaires, ou encore des nouvelles classes pour l’école qui n’ont pu être réalisées faute d’argent.
La première phase de notre projet se déroulera du 5 Septembre au 5 Octobre 2016. Sur place, nous consulterons les habitants au sujet de leurs besoins et nous entamerons ensemble la conception du projet, tout en nous formant dans la construction en bambou. Nous rentrerons ensuite avec les informations nécessaires pour effectuer nos demandes de subventions auprès de plusieurs financeurs publics qui nous aiderons à réaliser la prochaine phase du projet : sa construction !
Mais avant cela nous aurons besoin de votre aide ! Comme nos financeurs publics ne peuvent subventionner nos dépenses personnelles pour cette première phase, nous avons lancé cette campagne de financement participatif.
Ainsi, nous aimerions pouvoir récolter une somme de 4000€ pour toute l’équipe. Les fonds récoltés seront utilisés pour financer notre voyage ainsi que nos dépenses sur place. Nous serons logés chez les habitants de Camburi et nous participerons donc également aux dépenses de la maisonnée. Si le budget est dépassé, le surplus sera réinjecté dans la suite du projet.
