Camp Jojo 2020
Donation protected
Camp Jojo is a very special program for teens impacted by suicide.
Every day over 3000 teens attempt suicide. Some succeed. Children and teens exposed to suicidal behavior are 20% more likely to try. Our goal is to create a community designed to give teens a voice, a direction and ultimately, save lives.
Jojo died in 2017 at 16 years old. She gave HUGE hugs, and surrounded herself with color, music and dancing. Jojo loved summer camp and through the magic of camp we are hoping to make a difference in the lives of teens during a week-long sleepaway camp experience in July 2020.
The program is volunteer-ran and founded by Jojo’s childhood Camp Director, Joel Van Egbert and her mother, Sonya Spielberg. Teens will stay in rustic log cabins and take part in activities like messy, glittery art, dance, yoga, S'MORES, fishing. archery, mountain biking, outdoor camping, whitewater rafting, high ropes course, a silent summit ending in a dedication of color to lost loved ones and laughter - lots and lots of laughter.
We have a goal to make the program free to these teens. If you have lost someone due to suicide and hope to help the millions affected, please consider donating. Our goal is offer Camp Jojo across the country.
If you're interested in volunteering or supporting us in any way, please contact me.
Let's spread some joy.
