Campusradio Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam

There are terrifically many people and organisations that get together and organise activities on and around the campus of the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. These are not just the usual suspects such study associations, research institutes and university departments, but also to an increasing extent startups and companies from the Zuid-as. It is therefore safe to say that the campus buzzes with life. Still, on an average day, this doesn’t always show because groups and organisations easily become cliques within and around the university that hardly interact. We, a group of students and employees, want to change that.

By starting a radio station adjacent to the campus square from which we’ll be broadcasting live radio and recording podcasts we want to bring everyone on campus closer together. The station will offer a platform for the many individuals and organisations around us to share what they are up to and to interact with others within and outside the campus. This means there’ll be interviews with scholars, pitches from startups, debates on current affairs and of course: music.

In Juni 2019 we want to do a trial run and if this pilot is successful we’ll launch the radio station definitively in mid-August. Though in order to be able to do a pilot we need one thing and another such as licenses, microphones and ideally a sound-proof studio. Before early May we need €4270,- for licenses, software and hardware and with an additional €4400,- we’d be able to build ourselves a studio adjacent to the campus square. For €5,- you can request a song during one of the broadcasts.
For €20,- you’ll be invited to join one of our broadcasts for 2 to 3 minutes to have a little chat with us.
For €50,- you get to decide which artist we play exclusively during one of the blocks of programming.
For €100,- we’ll name one of the shows in our pilot after you.

Nederlands: Er zijn onnoembaar veel individuen en organisaties die op de campus van de Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam en daaromheen samenkomen, initiatieven ondernemen en activiteiten organiseren. Dat zijn natuurlijk de usual suspects zoals studieverenigingen, onderzoeksinstituten en afdelingen van de universiteit, maar daar blijft het niet bij. In de afgelopen jaren hebben zich bijvoorbeeld start-ups op de campus gevestigd en weten ook ondernemingen op de Zuid-as de campus beter te vinden. Met andere woorden: het bruist. Toch zien we daar niet altijd even veel van terug. Groepen en organisaties worden namelijk gemakkelijk eilandjes in de universitaire oceaan, die geheel op zichzelf lijken te staan. Daar willen wij, een groep studenten en medewerkers, iets aan veranderen.

Door aan het campusplein een radiostation op te richten, vanwaaruit live radio wordt gemaakt en podcasts worden opgenomen, willen we iedereen op de campus dichter bij elkaar brengen. Het radiostation biedt een platform voor de vele individuen en organisaties om ons heen om te delen waar ze mee bezig zijn en interactie te zoeken met geïnteresseerden op en buiten de campus. Dat betekent interviews met onderzoekers, pitches van start-ups, debat over actuele thema’s en natuurlijk: muziek.

In juni 2019 willen we een maand lang proefdraaien en als dit slaagt, gaan we half augustus definitief van start. Om proef te kunnen draaien, hebben we alleen wel het één en ander nodig, zoals licenties, microfoons en idealiter een geluidsdichte studio. We hebben vóór begin mei €4270,- nodig voor licenties, software en hardware en met €4400,- extra zouden we een studio kunnen bouwen aan het campusplein. Bij €5,- krijg je een nummer naar keuze cadeau op de radio.
Bij €20,- kom je twee à drie minuten in de uitzending om een babbeltje te komen maken.
Bij €50,- krijg je een dagdeel programmering, waarvan jij mag bepalen welke artiest we draaien.
Bij €100,- noemen we één van de terugkerende programma’s in juni naar jou.
