CAN Fundraiser for Otay Mesa Detention Resistance
Donation protected
Otay Mesa Detention Resistance (OMDR) is a non-institutional, non-partisan, autonomous committee comprised of, and organizing with, migrants and refugees. They appreciate borders and the architecture that extends beyond them as agents of state oppression that include military, prison, law enforcement, and border agencies/agents, as well as the politicians who support harder borders. The organization’s stated goals include supporting migrants and refugees by creating bridges between migrants and community resources, safe spaces of transition and support to honor and raise up the dignity, humanity, and agency of every migrant and, ultimately, by working to shut down the Otay Mesa Detention Center.
Presently, as more and more asylum-seekers arrive to join the thousands already amassed along the US/Mexico border, OMDR’s stated mission of migrant support has taken on even greater urgency. In the face of massive and violent state repression exacerbating what is already a humanitarian crisis, organizations like OMDR are greatly in need of our support—not as charity, but as an expression of solidarity—both with organizations like OMDR and the migrant/refugee populations they serve.
The Campus Antifascist Network (CAN), a broad-based, international coalition of scholar-activists and organizers, stands in solidarity with Otay Mesa Detention Resistance and the migrant communities the organization supports. CAN emerged in response to the fascist strategy on campuses of promoting a white-supremacist and nationalist project centered in violence against immigrants. With similarly xenophobic violence now leveled against the migrant caravan, CAN sends its full support to the caravan as well as all those on both sides of the border likewise standing in solidarity with the migrants and against fascist disruption, intimidation, and all ethno-nationalist projects. We stand in solidarity with OMDR.
We at CAN sincerely hope that you will also show your support and solidarity with a donation to help fund the efforts of OMDR to provide needed goods and services to the refugees seeking asylum along the US/Mexico border. Please give what you can, and stand with us in recognition of this phenomenal organization, and of the dignity and humanity of the people it supports.
