Canada Supports Navdanya Institute

Navdanya is the Indian-based NGO founded by Dr. Vandana Shiva to promote biodiversity conservation, organic farming, the rights of farmers, and the process of seed saving. Over the past 30 years, Navdanya Institute has:

- helped set up 122 community seed banks across India

- trained over 500,000 farmers in seed sovereignty, food sovereignty and sustainable agriculture

- helped set up the largest direct marketing, fair trade organic network in India

- set up a learning center, Bija Vidyapeeth (School of the Seed / Earth University) on its biodiversity conservation and organic farm in Doon Valley, Uttarakhand, North India

We welcome donations of any amount; all proceeds raised support the work of Navdanya Institute in honour of 30+ years of service.

The work in which Dr. Vandana Shiva and the Navdanya Institute has engaged over the past 30 years has had a profound influence on seed freedom, food sovereignty, organic agriculture, and the well- being of many individuals and communities. ORIGINS OF FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN:

Dangerous Ideas Festival hosted Re: generation, a tour with Dr. Vandana Shiva between Toronto and Waterloo on May 30th and 31st, 2017, featuring two free events: Sowing the Seeds of Resistance at the University of Toronto on May 30th, and Water is Life at the University of Waterloo on May 31st.

At Sowing the Seeds of Resistance, Dr. Vandana Shiva presented on 30 years of Navdanya Institute's research initiatives and community engagement – sharing stories of communities re-claiming seed sovereignty, re-building the commons, and regenerating local knowledge. At Water is Life Dr. Vandana Shiva shared insights into movements around the globe defending the right to Water, joined by fellow Water defenders Maude Barlow, Chief Leslee White-Eye and Dr. Shiv Chopra. This second event will is available online.

SINCE THAT TIME, we've kept the donation options open. We do ongoing work with Navdanya Institute and are working to formalize our relationships. A first step in that direction was forming the Earth Education League, a Canadian Not for Profit with a head office in Knowlesville, New Brunswick and offices in Toronto and Kitchener, Ontario.

FUNDS RAISED IN 2018 will help with Navdanya-Canada exchanges between programs and volunteers.
