Canelo's Knee Surgery

Donation protected
Nearly a year ago I made the best decision any dog lover could do, I added an Australian shepherd to my family.
Playful as any puppy can be, he ran everywhere sniffing everything, but as he was doing so he fell off a couple of steps. It left him limp for a day and then running the next day. My girlfriend Saida and I didn't think much of it thinking the pain would be swift, and we were right. 11 months later his back left leg started to become a burden on him. He often decided to lay around on the floor rather than run outside. It is the saddest thing to see, all I want for him is to be happy and active. Everyday I would rub Canelo's legs to relieve him of pain but one day I heard a pop, next thing I know he is running and his fluffy tail is waving side to side uncontrollably. After a week, the pop no longer worked. I took him to the vet on Friday January 20th and awaited the results from his x rays. The full severity of the situation was overwhelming.
Canelo was diagnosed with Patellar Luxation. The patella is what we know as the knee cap that protects the knee joint. In normal doggies the femur has a groove in which the patella slides up and down as the knee joint is bent back and forth. The groove is designed to limit the movement of the patella and keep it in place. On the other hand, my sweet baby Canelo was born with a shallow groove that allows the patella to "pop" out of place, which causes his immobility unitl it "pops" back into place. The nurse told me Canelo had to get surgery on both his hind legs, that would approximately cost between 1000-1500 per leg.
Canelo has insurance but it barely reduced the price for his Rimadyl and X ray, and it will not cover the surgery at all! That's where I need help. When I first got Canelo I was fully aware of the responsibility of a dog since I already had Spot for 8 years. Saida and I are the main providers for Canelo and everything has been smooth up until now. The amount of money needed is astounding, I'm a working student and I wish we didn't have to worry about money. Our only focus should be on his healing, so any donation made will seriously mean the world to us, and if a donation can't be made a share will be really appreciated. Thank you!
Sincerely Abat
