Care for Christin

Thank you everyone for showing how much we all love Christin and how much she has impacted us all through her love, caring, smiles, and compassion. Last week on January 11th, Christin fell ill with the flu and was initially treated. However her immune system was compromised and a bacterial infection began. After several days of increasing pain and failing to receive proper medical care from multiple medical facilities, Christin was transported by ambulance to a Level 1 Trauma Hospital. Due to the time that had lapsed caused by the misdiagnoses, the bacterial infection developed into a highly aggressive form of Necrotizing Faciitis (flesh eating bacteria), a very rare and destructive disease with a mortality rate of 30% and higher. Within twelve hours Christin underwent two surgeries to remove the infected tissue in an effort to save her life. In total over 30% of Christin's soft tissue had to be surgically removed during these life saving efforts. She is currently in critical yet stable condition as she undergoes further surgeries. Christin faces a very long road to recovery ahead with numerous skin graft surgeries, reconstructive surgeries and physical therapy. We currently don't know how long it will take for Christin to fully recover but she will most likely be hospitalized for several months before she can be safely discharged assuming there are no further complications. Christin's passion to help others led to her becoming a special education teacher but it is unknown when she will be able to return back to work to help support her three beautiful children.
