Care for Kathy - Dog Mauling Victim
Donation protected
In Los Angeles, California in the Melrose District, a beloved resident and local dog walker was viciously mauled by an aggressive off-leash dog on May 30, 2019. Subsequent to the attack, friends and family come to find out that is the fourth bite attack from this dog. Friends and family of the mauling victim are asking for the public's help and this GoFundMe page has been set up to help the victim with her extensive care.
Kathy sustained serious injuries to her hand and shoulder. The bites to her hand are deep puncture wounds that developed quickly into a serious and life threatening infection. Her thumb on her right, dominant hand, turned black from infection. Kathy was just released from the hospital on June 21st after an extended stay for continuous IV antibiotic treatments because of the seriousness of the infection.
She has two drains inserted into her hand that will remain through the end of June. She has been treated with massive amounts of antibiotics to treat the dangerous bacterial infection from the deep puncture wounds caused by the bites. Her health and livelihood have all been in great peril since the May 30th attack.
The dog is a mixed XL breed around 3 or 4 years old named Forrest. It looks like the dominant trait is German Shepherd with some Akita and/or Husky traits in the mix. The dog was off-leash and just started charging her from a distance that was at least twenty feet away. Poor Kathy had just closed a client's front door and turned towards the building's walkway when the dangerous dog began charging towards them. The woman walking with the aggressive dog ran inside her apartment and left the dog with Kathy mid-attack. Luckily, the Kathy was able to get control of the dog and dragged him to the dog owner's front door. She pounded on the door and the dog owner's roommate let the dog in and slammed the door shut. It was like a “hit and run.”
Again, subsequent to the attack, we've found out that the dog has had three previous bite-attacks. The dog is unvaccinated and the owner refused to turn the dog in to be quarantined and tested. The dog has yet to be surrendered to LA Animal Care, the dog owner callously refuses to turn over the dog.
Please help with Kathy's extensive care.
