Support At-Risk Girls in Barbados

Let me tell you about Ivy*....
Ivy is a 14 year old girl living in a little place down by the market with her mum and 2 little brothers. She never knew her dad and she had seen a few step-dad's come and go.
Her mums new boyfriend was nice at first but after a while he showed his temper. Ivy walked in the kitchen and saw him hit her mum with a pot from the stove. She was so shocked she ran away. He threatened that if she ever told anyone it would happen to her....
Ivy lived in fear for months..... One day she tried to stop him hitting her mum and he threw her against the wall. He said he was going to teach her a lesson for being so 'rude'.... Ivy became withdrawn, isolated and stopped attending school on a regular basis. She was afraid of what might happen to her mum....
One day her friend told her about a special assembly they had from an organisation called Iamagirl. Her friend told her about what they do to help young girls and she realised that maybe there was a way out. Ivy finally found the strength to speak out.....
Now with the support of Carib2UK she will access the therapeutic support that she needs..... Ivy's story has a good ending but what about the hundreds of other girls who might not be so lucky....
November 25th - international elimination of violence towards women day! It starts here....
The violence must stop.... Their voices must be heard....
Carib2UK [reg. charity 1161437] are raising money to deliver workshops and therapeutic interventions for at-risk girls and young women in Barbados from 25/11 - 10/12 which is an international call to activism for people all over the world... Gender based violence must stop!
In collaboration with the charity, IAMAGIRL Barbados, we aim to deliver a series of workshops & seminars promoting the use of dramatherapy and creative expressive techniques to support young women who have been through horrific trauma and live in very difficult circumstances.
WHAT WILL YOUR DONATION DO?
- Directly support young girls with experience of physical, emotional and sexual abuse.
- Help train mentors and group leaders in ways to support young women who have experienced such trauma.
- Provide support & information to parents and carers of those who have been abused
- Support research into the efficacy of dramatherapy and creative expressive interventions.
- Provide seminars and lectures for professionals interested in the use of Dramatherapy.
We aim to raise enough money to cover full cost of delivery and research which will include a full length video which will document the efficacy of the workshops and support us in fundraising bids for further work.
Please share this with all your colleagues, friends and family.
A little donation can really help a lot.
Should you be a business looking to sponsor a large part of this project please get in touch by email to discuss sponsorship opportunities.
