Carlito Strong Medical Fund
Carlos Moran is a 27 year old first year middle school science teacher, national champion judo fighter, and a newly-wed, who is fighting the battle of his life, stage 4 cancer. If you know Carlos or just met him on the street, you are able to see that he has such a positive outlook on life and is an incredibly sweet person loved by so many. Carlos was just diagnosed with stage 4 medullary kidney cancer, which is very rare form of kidney cancer (only 1% of patients diagnosed with cancer have this cancer). This cancer is found with people who have a sickle cell trait, which can be checked by getting bloodwork done. My husband will have to undergo intense cycles of chemotherapy and surgery to remove the kidney. In addition, since the chemotherapy is detrimental to the embryo, we will have to freeze his sperm before he starts the chemo.
My name is Charissa Moran, I am his loving wife of only 6 months. My husband is one of the most amazing person you will meet, who has touched the lives of everyone he comes in contact with. I have never met a person who is as amazing with kids as my husband. Carlos starting teaching this year at School #13 in Paterson, NJ. It hurts him so much to only have been a teacher for only 3 months and have to leave his students because he loves his student so much. Carlos has always had a passion to teach. He has been teaching judo for over 10 years. He is very fit person and treats his body like a holy temple.
HOW THE MONEY WILL BE SPENT:
Funds raised in this campaign will go directly to cover the medical bills from the hospital stays, chemotherapy, surgery, and trips to New York City (as he will be treated at Weill Cornell New York Presbyterian). In addition, the funds will go to the cost of freezing the sperm.
Carlos and I are so blessed to have your prayers and support. Although this has been a difficult time, your love has kept our spirits strong. My husband said to me, "I did not know I was loved by so many people". With this much love, we can conquer all things!
We are so grateful for all of your support. You have no idea how much your prayers, phone calls, texts, and visits have made an impact on us.
When we were told our loved ones were setting up a fundraiser for Carlos, we were in tears. This gave us huge sense of relief. I thank God that we can travel to the best doctors in the country. We are so grateful for your contributions to help commute back and forth to NYC and for other medical expenses.
This has been a monumental year for Carlos first with graduating college, getting married, and starting his career. You never expect to be fighting cancer/tumors in your 20s or in your first year of marriage. Carlos has always put me first. I know it has put mind at rest that God has given us so many people helping me and having his back.
We thank you for everything you have done for us.
Love,
Carlos's Wife ~ Charissa
