Carson Conquers Cancer!
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Katie Roe and I'm fundraising for The Hunter Family. Kristi Hunter is my dear friend and she and her family are facing a parent's worst nightmare. Their 7 year-old daughter, Carson, was recently diagnosed with cancer. Carson went to the ER at Phoenix Children's Hospital this past Wednesday morning because she had been having sporadic fevers for a week. The pediatrician had no answers but Kristi decided "she was not messing around" so they took her to PCH. Turns out her mother's intuition was spot on. By noon that day they learned that little Carson had a large tumor in her abdomen, that was likely cancer. This news was shocking and surreal and the next few minutes, hours, and days were a whirlwind. Carson was immediately admitted to the oncology floor and 24 hours later she was having surgery to remove a 6.5 inch mass that was over 5lbs (10% of her body weight). In the process they had to remove an ovary as well. Surgery went well and they confirmed that the tumor was cancerous but thankfully the entire mass was removed. They said the worst moment of their life was having to tell their 7 year-old that she has cancer. They are home now and Carson is resting and healing. Anyone that knows her knows that she is a happy and spunky little lady that loves unicorns and pink and sparkles! She is a courageous little fighter that radiates love and light! They are unsure at this point if Carson will need chemo or not as they await more pathology reports.
The Hunters do have insurance that will cover some of the costs but they are facing a minimum of $12,000 in out of pocket medical expenses, plus anything that is deemed "out of network" at PCH will not be covered at all. According to the National Pediatric Cancer Foundation, the average hospital stay costs $40,000 for a child with cancer. In addition to treatment, there are other costs that add to the mounting stack of medical bills, such as food, transportation (80 miles round trip to the hospital), childcare, etc. If you know Kristi, you know that she is supermom and loves her children fiercely. She is also kind and caring and takes care of everyone else. She has probably delivered flowers, or coffee, or a meal to many of you when you have experienced something difficult in your life, and now it is our turn to help. She doesn't like asking for help, so I am asking on their behalf that you please donate to help alleviate some of the financial burden placed on this family during such a difficult time. Please also keep them in your thoughts and prayers as Carson recovers from surgery and they continue to monitor her!
If you would prefer to donate a gift card for food, meal delivery, gas, etc. the following is a list of ideas based on what is the most useful and convenient for their family:
-V's Taproom in Vistancia
-Any restaurants at Happy Valley Rd. & Lake Pleasant Pkwy.
-Costco or Safeway cards
-Circle K or QT gas cards
-Meal delivery services that delivers to their area are Grubhub, Uber Eats, and Door Dash.
