Crutches, Canes and Cars

My car’s name is Snagglefang. In 1996, Snagglefang was purchased by my late grandmother who later gave Fang to me just before she passed away in 2006. My aunt taught me how to drive in that manual transmission by parking on a hill and saying, “Alright, let’s go.” I’ve spent eleven years and built countless memories driving that same car and had every intention of enjoying many more years to come with her. But then life happened.

A few weeks ago I slipped down stairs at work and while I stuck the landing like a good Olympian, my mortal left-knee did not give my landing a ten. At first the doctors said it was just a sprain and that I’d be back on my feet in one, two weeks at max. Almost a month has gone by now and I’ve gone from using a cane to a pair of crutches. The pain in my knee has only increased. The doctors now think I may have torn my meniscus and possibly incurred damage to my tendons. If that is the case, I may have to have surgery, which could lead to a very lengthy recovery period. Due to the complexities of my case, it is taking a long time for anything to advance medically. The worst of it is, being that it’s my clutch-engaging leg that is injured, I can’t drive my dear car. I’ve had to depend on friends and family to get to work every day as shifting gears or using public transportation with my injury is out of the question. The troubles of getting to work aside, the independence that has been taken from me from this injury has been detrimental and it kills me to say this; I need an automatic car.

After doing a few test drives and a ton of research, the Honda HRV LX 2WD CV is the car that has caught my eye. Hondas are reliable and this automatic will give me back my ability to be independent. This car is at a good level up from the ground, so it will be easy to get in and out of with my injury. This model runs at $21,014 before Tax and Title.

My hope is that I’ll raise enough money with this campaign so that I won’t have to sell my car, but if I have to, hopefully someone will be able to teach their children how to drive manual by parking them on a hill their first time behind the wheel and saying, "Alright, let's go!"

I'm the second kindergartener in line with the red hairband and just on the other side of the fence is my grandma's car, my current car, watching over me. Please help me keep this car in my family by donating towards my down payment or sharing this campaign on your social media.

Thank you for giving me hope that the dream of keeping Snagglefang may come true.
