CCPCS Families Affected by Fire

Donation protected
Four families from Capital City Public Charter School were affected by an apartment fire at 13th and Peabody St. early on June 24th. The fire started before dawn and residents escaped through smoke-filled hallways and down ladders with nothing but the clothes on their backs. The Washington Post Story on the fire features interviews with the parents of two Capital City students and at least one other family also lived in the building.

The city has provided them with housing in hotels for the next month, but they will need to buy basic necessities, feed themselves without access to kitchens, and then furnish their new homes once they find new places to live. As a community, we would like to raise as much money as possible to help them replace what was lost and find new places to live if necessary. Any amount you can give would be appreciated.

This campaign will not be administered by Capital City PCS, but I will be working with school staff to determine the needs of each family and allocate the money to all three families based on those needs.

My name is Eleanor Davis. I am a teacher at Capital City and I have worked with two of the families involved for several years. I hope to deliver the funds raised directly to the families in their temporary housing later this week.

Thank you!
